Remarkable Maine lawyer Volney Sprague dies at 90s
Volney A. Sprague aged almost 92 died at his son Merrill Sprague's home after an illness of a week. He leaves a widow and two sons Merrill of Joliet and Wilson of Portland Me. Born Dexter Maine 1811 he taught, studied law and practiced in Corunna and Dexter before moving to the city in 1896. He was reputed as the oldest attorney in the United States with vigorous mental powers and public interest. The funeral will be private and the remains go to Dexter for interment. Also reported a theft arrest: Caught with a watch and four silk handkerchiefs from Gilbert Hamla Morris. Goodall H. Swanson bound over to grand jury on larceny charge.
