Miami Indian mascot Chief Miami explains dignity of role
Miami University mascot Roger Kilmer describes Chief Miami as an authentic ceremonial figure. The Indian costume, drum, spear, flute, and feathered gear were donated by the Miami Indians under a sacred agreement to keep the role dignified. Kilmer notes the tribe’s historian and supervisor Floyd Leonard influences the portrayal.
