Emergency Food Pantry Drives Donations Through May 12
The Network of Care and Harrison Share Shop sponsor a food drive for the emergency pantry serving Crosby Harrison and Whitewater Townships. Donations of canned goods and dry foods accepted at IGA Kroger Share Shop Ann's Beauty Shop Hill Street and the Community Center George Street, plus Whitewater Township on Reeds Center Dry Fork Roads. About 40 families are served monthly. volunteers run the pantry and funds are low. Contact Al Leonard or Debbie Hess at the Whitewater Township Community Center 367-6046 for donations or volunteering.

Thirteen year old Brian Stuart an eighth grader at Christ Centered School earned runner-up in the all around at the Ohio gymnastics state meet. Ken Kemper a Fremont high school senior and future Air Force Academy cadet won the all around title.

Juveniles Behind the Wheel in Fatal U.S. 52 Chase
A 16 minute police chase ended April 24 when a stolen 1984 Toyota crashed into a utility pole on U S 52 west of New Trenton splitting in half. A 15 year old suffered a broken vertebra in Dayton. a 16 year old driver and another youth were treated at Dearborn County Hospital and released. The chase began on I 74 near Ind 1 after Trooper Dwight Proffet pursued for a traffic violation. The youths, residents of Engelwood, were involved in the incident.

Thirty students at William Henry Harrison High School were inducted into the Doris M. Lusk Chapter of the National Honor Society during an evening ceremony on April 23. Inductees were chosen for scholarship service leadership and character with speakers including retiring Harrison Elementary Principal Earl Romohr and founder Doris M. Lusk. The chapter adviser Carroll Roberts noted the group’s ongoing role in school and community after since 1954 membership surpassing 500.

In 1935 a group of young women formed a literary club. On April 11, 1985 the club celebrated its 50th anniversary with active charter member Irma Mullen noted for her years of service until her death in 1984. Roberta Webb helped organize the special day.
