New Baltimore Fire Dept Refuses State Audit
The New Baltimore Fire Department in Crosby Township refused a state auditor's request to open its books. Trustees had authorized an audit of public funds from 1983 to 1985 as part of plans for the township to take over the department in July. The township contends the $63,016 in funds and 1985 bills were properly handled. The department, a private non profit, questions the justification for auditing its books. The township attorney noted a December 16 resolution directing the audit. The office was unavailable for further comment.
