Washington Sept 21 The new president held a cabinet meeting after returning from Canton and signed the commission elevating Col James M Bell to brigadier general, signaling adherence to the late president's wishes. Roosevelt walked alone to his sister’s home for luncheon and returned to the White House, planning to move his family in next week.
Manila report states Major Alhambra, two captains, five lieutenants and 29 men with 3 rifles surrendered about 49 miles north of Baler to Capt. George A. Del Rio Texas September 23 Michael Roods shot and killed Miss Fosette after she refused marriage then stabbed himself 14 times, wounds proved fatal. The case ends in a deadly domestic crime with a self inflicted injuries, authorities report.
Archduke Frederick a cousin of Emperor Francis Joseph was shot at by a poacher at his country seat in Hungary. The bullet passed through his sleeve and did not injure him.
