In Carmo Illinois on September 20 Ellen Law a 16 year old colored girl took morphine and died to avoid jail over fines totaling 60 dollars assessed in the Police Court under city ordinances.
News briefs report a Naples earthquake lasting eight seconds and a cholera surge in Palermo Sicily with panic, food shortages, and many new cases and deaths. A Spanish note claims Yap is de facto occupied by Spain while the Dolphin wreck near Havre leaves seventeen missing.
Jumbo's skeleton will pass to the National Museum with the skin sent to Taft's College. Professor Ward and assistants removed flesh from Jumbo's bones at St Thomas Ontario.
