In San Jose on September 11, Mrs Camille B Milner of Oakland died when a car overturned on a sharp Milpitas curve nine miles north of the city. UC student Marian Van Horn is in critical condition. John D Isaacs Jr and Walter M Clark, California students, were passengers. Isaacs drove at top speed as a wheel gave way and the auto plunged into a ditch. Mrs Milner died instantly. the men escaped unharmed.
Manila dated dispatch reports Lieut. R. E. Treadwell of the Philippine scouts killed by Pulajanos six miles south of Barauen. He commanded a small detachment whose bivouac was attacked at night by about 100 Pulajangs. Treadwell was the sole casualty.

John Boozer alias Chas Thorne, a colored man, was pardoned by Governor Lea on the recommendation of the pardon board. He had been convicted of the murder of George D. Farra in December 1897 and sentenced to hang two years ago.

Columbus police pursue a Newark tip about John W. Yantis of Ansonia being robbed of his pocketbook containing 2500 at the interurban station in Columbus or aboard a car on the way to Newark.
A Norwich man, Elmer Campbell, saw his home in Zanesville burn to the ground. He was rescued from his bed amid the blaze and carried by his wife and their young son a half mile to a neighbor's house for safety.
Mrs Henry Knippen of Cloverdale Ohio, wife of a farmer, cut off the heads of her two children with a butcher knife and was taken to Toledo State Hospital for the Insane. Knippen husband is prostrated by the tragedy.
