Henry Burbank, an English cattleman, was stripped and lashed to a broncho by Thos Wilson and companions in Nebraska. He endured seven days on the horse before rescue, driven across sun and wind with no food or drink. Burbank, 34, recalls the May 27 attack and June 3 discovery, after forming a partnership with Wilson in Falmouth before moving to the Northwest.
A four story tenement at No 2195 Second Avenue in New York City suffered a basement fire that spread via dumbwaiter shafts and air vents. Inhabitants fled through front windows, with Mrs Morris and others injured, while Jacob Betz and wife escaped down a ladder after dropping their baby to a bystander.
Toronto July 13 reports Grand Trunk plans a tunnel under the St Clair River one and a half miles below Sarnia to directly connect with the United States. Expert William Ward will test rock viability by drilling from a river flatboat. if suitable, construction will begin soon.
McDoroves Ga July 12 Mr John J Baily a well to do Henry County farmer died by his own hand. No cause given. A longtime Primitive Baptist Church member he left instructions for his funeral sermon and the preacher. He was thirty six and left a wife and seven children.
Washmerton July 12 The secretary of State directed last winter the preparation of a circular letter to secure through consular officers the fullest information on labor conditions worldwide especially in Europe. Very full returns have been received from consuls and are now being prepared in the bureau of statistics for publication.

Berlin presses urge recall of Dr. Koch as cholera spreads through Marseilles Toulon and Lyons with dozens of deaths daily. Thousands flee Marseilles amid extreme panic and chaotic train stations. Paris notes sporadic cases and Asiatic links while officials warn the scourge may run its European course this summer.
At 8 30 p m train No 7 from Martinsburg collided with westbound No 12 from Baltimore entering Washington. No fatalities beyond several injuries including engineer Riley and fireman, with others hurt. The westbound signal error caused detainment. wreckage heavy and engines buried under a passenger car.
In Pittsburg on July 12, Joseph Seidenstricker aged thirteen shot Curly Eshenbaugh six, mortally wounding him during play near the Episcopal Home for Children. Seidenstricker fled with three other boys. Eshenbaugh remains alive but at death’s door as authorities pursue suspects.
July 13 The Capital reports an imminent uniform reform for enlisted men from Quartermaster General Holabird. New attire includes a white stripe on trousers and gold braid chevrons. General Sheridan approves the idea, while Secretary Lincoln will seek officers’ opinions before final approval.
In Burlington Vermont on July 18 a powder explosion at Catlin's stone quarry killed Jerry Patrande, 60, and his son Frank, 19, instantly while Joseph Mascotte was fatally injured. The men tamped a powder charge from a keg for a blast when it exploded, lifting them sixty feet into the air and burying Mascotte under fallen stone.
London reports England has again shown severity by sentencing five prisoners to a total of thirty five years penal servitude for theft including two ducks four bullocks two fowls one apron and three small pieces of jewelry.
New York July 12 report Halsted Haines Co importers and jobbers in dry goods failed today with liabilities at least 417000 and anticipated totals near 2 million. Some merchants predicted the collapse while others were surprised by the development.

A mob attacked the Owensboro jail at 1 30 am killing Jailer W J Lucas and wounding his son. They seized Richard May a Black prisoner and hanged him from a courthouse yard limb. Two mob members reportedly killed amid battle. May is fourth mob hanging in the courthouse yard.
