Cincinnati story reports Jack Wolf aged twenty six who killed himself at his mother's home six miles south of Covington Kentucky after a history of mental decline. He had sworn to eradicate saloons, damaged one with an ax, and had been confined to Lexington Asylum before being brought home. He died by self-inflicted throat wounds with a broad-axe nearby.
Bloomington Indiana July 12 Word has reached here of a remarkable surgical operation. Mrs Sarah Owens mother of Congressmen elect Owens from the Thirteenth Indiana District had suffered fourteen years from a tumor on the right abdomen. Doctors gave one chance in twenty of removal and death within months. Five hours under ether an incision twenty two inches long revealed a fatty substance tumor. Four men two and a half hours removed fifty five pounds of mass. She awoke remembering nothing of the operation.
Dr Hamilton reports a circulating rumor of yellow fever cases in New Orleans. He has not received official data but is investigating. In New Orleans, the Board of Health denies additional cases beyond the recently reported one, with the patient nearly recovered and assurances that any case will be officially reported to other boards and the press.
Seymour Inc reports Jonathan Robertson a farmer living near Ewing was stung on the wrist by a sweat bee. The arm swelled quickly, spreading to the body and neck, then the head within an hour. Doctors disagree, but the general belief is the bee fed on poisonous blossoms.
In Mo mence county sixty people are reported poisoned after consuming dried beef sold by local merchants and purchased in Chicago. About twenty are seriously ill, the rest are confined to bed but no deaths are reported according to physicians.
Shenandoah Pennsylvania July 12 Charles Dyer a breaker boss at a local colliery fatally shot himself this morning He faced a threatened bigamy prosecution from one of his three wives adding a grim note to the tragedy
Three prisoners escaped from the Richmond Virginia penitentiary this afternoon but were soon recaptured after a brief clash. Two citizens and each convict sustained wounds in the exchange. Authorities pursued the escapees through surrounding streets until capture.
Betfast Maine on July 12 endured a major blaze that killed two people and left twenty horses dead with cattle burned and property losses mounting as flames devastated the town.

Prof Bar nard of Vanderbilt University Observatory reports a faint new comet seen on the evening of July 7 near P A 17h 21m 24s and dec south 44h 57m 8s. Prof Lewis Swift of Warner Observatory confirms the surface resembled a nebula and notes daily motion of 8m southwest. The find could earn the Warner prize of $200 for the year’s first new comet discovery.
In CuicaGo on Polk Street Depot a Denver bound man named Remeau ran amok as police pursued him. Barrett was killed in the confrontation. The assailant was wounded and captured, later declared insane by the County Court.
In Momence Illinois authorities report a dried beef outbreak. Microscope finds thousands of worms per square inch, some black some white with antennae. Two deaths recorded, Mrs Shrouts and Charles Wooster, with others critically ill. Chicago scientist warned all who ate it may die.
The body of Dr Geo 8 Metzger of Columbiana Ohio was cremated in Lancaster. Paul Metzger and wife from Salem Col, and George Vogelson with his son Edward Vogelson, brought the body by train to the crematorium. The cremation completed in about an hour and ashes to be sent to Columbiana tomorrow. T G Clausen of Davenport Iowa witnessed the ceremony.
A July meeting in Princess Hall of Londox featured Mrs. Booth and other speakers addressing ways to protect young girls in London. Delegates urged tighter laws, repeal of the contagious diseases act, and an age of consent increase from thirteen to eighteen, with copies of the record sent to the House of Commons.
In Washington on July 9 Charles Knott a shoemaker entered George Morris home and asked Mrs. Morris for a photograph. He shot her in the head and through the left lung then killed himself. Mrs. Morris is not expected to live. Knott believed sane at the time.
Washington July 10 Mr Hibbs former Lewiston Idaho postmaster who stole 15000 dollars and nearly 40000 planned gains writes to Attorney General Bryant of the Post Office Department alleging a registered letter with 600 dollars to a friend did not reach its recipient.
Toronto July 10 news notes a flaw in Louis Riel's indictment for treason against the Queen while a subject, asserting he is an American citizen who took allegiance oaths in Montana, opening a path to acquittal.
