Detroit Michigan january 18 1883 Justus M Kin Bey a young Byron Township farmer was found near Grand Rapids badly injured and died after an apparent fall from a horse. Shouts were heard before the body was found and Anton Hartzig and Fernando Zay have been arrested nearby in Alleghane County as suspects with alleged evidence.
Boston dispatch reports the steamer City of Columbus ashore at Devil's Bridge Gay Head and breaking up with about one hundred lives lost. The vessel City of Col Maia sailed from Boston with fifty nine first class passengers twenty two steerage and forty five crew. Four officers and some crew are missing or lost. The cutter Dexter rescued I E Wright master.

On January 17 in Dernorr two burglars raided the home of Crusen Lafayette township treasurer in Gratiot County. They were forced to flee, leaving Crusen fatally injured from the assault.
In Soudan on January 17 the Governor General reports rebels have blocked retreat routes in Sennaar province and sunk boats to render the Nile impassable below Duem. Relief of Sinkat is considered essential as about twenty seven thousand rebels are between Suakim and Sinkat.

Jim Gimbbrandt a saloon proprietor in the woods near Dusois PA was assaulted by neighbor Italians who beat him unconscious and stabbed him. The injured man is alive but likely to die. Two Italians have been arrested and...
R B Woods a reporter on the daily Register was assaulted at daybreak by unknown assailants. He was found unconscious and it is feared his injuries are fatal. The Register offers a large reward for the detection of the offenders.
An early morning blast in the mixing-house of the Vulcan Dynamite Company in Allentown Pennsylvania instantly killed John W. Ruckenbone Isaac Kramer and Jacob Heffron. Three other men were slightly injured and three small buildings were destroyed.

Dell Ashcroft aged about twenty nine confessed today at Chardon that he Ira Bidlake and his Wife conspired to rob and murder Mrs. Robinson a woman over eighty in Munson Geauga County thirteen years ago. It marks the second such clergy downfall in two weeks and notes an archbishop Lynch of Canada appointing Heilford as traveling missionary for Martiiette diocese on Feb 7.
