Paris December 8 ministers tendered resignations to President Grevy after the Chamber adopted a motion for total abolition of prefect offices by 13 votes, causing an intense lobby upheaval. Prime Minister Sarrien, Interior Minister, and Develle and Gowlet expected to press for retirement as De Freycinet may be asked to reform the cabinet.
A stranger registered as Jim Cummings at Gentropolis Hotel, stole the landlord's bat, and fled. Policeman Kiser pursued him to near the depot, where the suspect drew a pistol and fatally wounded the officer before escaping down the tracks as a crowd fled. The policeman is dying.
