United Methodist delegates repeal ban on same sex celebrations
United Methodist delegates at Charlotte voted 447 to 233 to end the ban on celebrations of same sex marriages or unions by clergy and in churches. The action follows earlier votes overturning the 52 year old declaration that homosexuality is incompatible with Christian teaching and a ban on LGBTQ clergy. The General Conference marks the church's first gathering since 2019, after the departure of thousands of conservative congregations.
