Dollar sinks below two hundred yen in Tokyo market
The dollar neared 200 yen as Bank of Japan intervention cushioned the decline. The yen hovered around 201 after opening at 200.50 yen, well down from 201.35. A drop under 200 yen would raise U.S. imports costs, while leaders urge U.S. inflation control and reduced oil spending. President Carter slated for Bonn summit.
