Unemployment claims fall but stay near record levels
U S jobless claims dropped by 19 000 to 787 000 last week though still near four times pre pandemic levels. The four week average rose to 413 claims and the total receiving benefits fell to 5.2 million as pandemic restrictions keep many out of work.
