Medina County Fair Demolition Derby fuels family passion
Medina native Dan Cergel Jr. returned to the Medina County Fairgrounds for a fourth time to race in a black 1992 Chevrolet Lumina in the sub-compact class. The 20-year-old auto technician at Liberty Ford in Brunswick follows in his father Dan Cergel Sr.’s footsteps, a longtime derby participant who helped build The Beast, a 1987 Monte Carlo with a 427 engine. The derby, a team sport and family time, shaped Cergel Jr.’s hobby and career since he started at 16.
