Ivey Mae Threat Receives Six Months Suspended Sentence

Ivey Mae Threat a Black woman of 504 West Radley Avenue was given a suspended six month term in a Raleigh women’s prison by Judge P C Froneberger of Gastonia Municipal Court on Monday. She was convicted of a knife assault on Benjamin J Jenkins of 305 West Lincoln Avenue on May 21 and ordered to pay $25.

Sims Legion Park mortgage to be paid off this week

The Sims Legion Park mortgage will be paid off this week after a community drive led by Dr. Frank Dalton. About $7,000 was raised from ticket sales and donations, with $3,200 in a bank account and $2,650 in donations, totaling roughly $11,780 toward the payoff. A new Ford won by C. L. Air Conditioning Upgrades at Gaston County Health Center

Gaston County commissioners approved a 7071 addition to the contract for the new Health Center in Gastonia to cover air conditioning. Holland-Cash Company submitted the low bid for a 25 ton unit with cooling tower piping and wiring, bringing total project cost to 142571 with 48 percent funded by the county and the rest from state and federal governments. The center rises at Highland and Davidson near Gaston Memorial Hospital.

Belmont Abbey held baccalaureate services as Bishop Hodges urged the 19 seniors to keep faith while noting the nation’s strength. Alumni gathered for class reunions as Rev. Vincent G. Hennessee to Attend State College Training School

Dewey Hennessee, assistant farm agent, will leave tomorrow for Raleigh to attend a week long in service training at State College for new Extension Service workers. This is his second time at the school with the previous visit in 1952 as a beef and cattle specialist. New teaching methods and the latest agriculture research will be presented.
