Boston Clergyman dies as firm faces government suit
The Rev Rowland H Alien secretary of the New England Branch of the American Tract Society died in Neponset Mass. United States Marshal Usher has attached the goods and estate of White Brown Co valued at 350000 to answer to the Government in a tort action. The firm of White H and James White T D Lecompte and Geo H Brown are major English dress goods importers. They allegedly entered goods in false classes to evade duties amounting to 100000. Fraud claims cover August 2 1867 to November 15 1869. The firm long respected in Boston and among oldest in the city.
