A surge of street fights left Burns injured after a shooting by Toole on Liberty Street. Atlantics left fielder Albert Thake drowned near Fort Hamilton. Metis disaster bodies identified as 132 accounted, 25 found dead, 28 missing. The American Institute Fair opens at Sixty-third Street and Third Avenue with Barnard delivering the opening address. E H Stanley, from Fort Larned, reports a government train of 306 mule teams carrying army supplies for Fort Lyon was ambushed by a band of 200 Arrapahoe under Little Raven near Dry Creek, nine miles behind its escort. Wounded and dead soldiers, missing men believed captured, wagons burned, mules driven off.
Three inmates Lucas Riley and Swathwood escaped from Darke county jail in Greenville Ohio between six and seven last evening during supper. The jailer failed to secure the door and no clues yet. A one hundred dollar reward was offered for their recapture.
In Chicago on September 2, a violent early morning shooting in a disreputable West Division area left Patterson wounded by Huxley after a quarrel over a woman. Huxley fled but was arrested. he confessed boasting the deed and hoping for Patterson's death. Patterson is expected to die.
Jacksonville September 2 A farmer named Scott was murdered about a mile and a half from the Road House in Green County. He was found by his wife with a bullet hole in the head after an day’s work. No arrest yet, but a neighbor with an old grudge is suspected and believed to have fled the country.
Detroit readers awash with news of Jim Mace Barney Aaron and other fighters arriving in Windsor for a heavyweight and lightweight title bout plans. Edwards Chambers expected to clash Wednesday near Detroit with extra heavyweights O Baldwin and Tom Allen among arrivals. A steamer will carry the party Tuesday night likely to a Lake island.
On Saturday Beeler's Hall hosted Liberal Republicans and Democrats addressed by Mr. Pardee on current issues. Rev. Fee conducted morning services at the M E church with Rev. Brown speaking in the evening. A large attendance attended a Sabbath afternoon lecture before the Young Men's Christian Association.
A Presbyterian Sabbath school gathering drew many children and friends to A Malsbury’s grove west of the village. Wagons and vehicles filled the grounds as Rev Cortelu led games and amusements in pleasant cool weather. Universalists hosted a large children’s picnic the next day with similarly favorable conditions.
A meeting at the Jefferson schoolhouse on Indian Hill Saturday evening last organized a Grant and Wilson club with about fifty signers. Officers elected: President Col. J. F. Waring, Vice President W. L. Fuller, Treasurer Martin Warner, Secretary W. L. Fuller, and a six member Executive Committee. Regular meetings set for Saturday evenings each week.
The ConcordSycamore township community enjoyed a pleasant afternoon at the dedication of the school house addition. Mahlon Holbrook led the exercises with addresses by C. W. Gerard A. B. Johnson Dr. Jones Thos L Spooner and Superintendent of schools Mr Knight at Madisonville. The regular school session begins on the ninth of the month with teachers Mr Voorhees and Miss Cortleo.
Albert 8. Berry of this city will address the poor of Boone county at the barbecue at McConnell's Woods opposite Rising Sun Indiana next Wednesday. The Campbell County Fair starts tomorrow near Alexandria. The railroad depot on Saratoga street will be built at once. Timber for the project is being hauled. Andes Lodge No 2 of the Ancient Order of United Workmen will be instituted in this city next Thursday evening. It is estimated there are about one hundred small pox cases in the city. Several local politicians went to Alexandria to hear the congressional candidates Arthur and Myers.
The Greeley and Brown Club completed its organization by electing Joseph Hermes president W G Stone recording secretary and O B Hallam corresponding secretary Judge Arthur and others addressed the group The club leased Oddfellows Hall until November 7 for 150 dollars Meanwhile four Catholic priests were ordained at St Marys Cathedral in a ceremony witnessed by many local residents

Carey Bell a one legged Newport celebrity and former school trustee candidate was stabbed twice by a railroad brakeman on Madison Street near the Short-line station as he prepared to depart for Louisville. The attacker was arrested on the Cincinnati ferry boat by Officers Woodside and Martin and jailed for examination.
A Daily Telegraph special correspondent questions Stanley's nationality amid claims he is Welsh by birth rather than American.
