The Daily Evening reports England accepts the amended Supreme Treaty amid ongoing ceremonies for Decoration Day in Washington. Governor Hoffman and committee of seventy are noted, along with a boiler explosion causing loss of life.
Reports from Washington indicate the Senate in executive session considered a treaty modification. The subject remains under discussion in both houses with the nature of the supplemental treaty still unclear. The death of Sir Henry Bulwer is noted and news from Rome and France reference arrests and Vatican activity.
Madrid dispatch from May reports Serrano at Balboa Biscay awaiting word from the government on the insurgent movement. He states hundreds of Carlists are daily surrendering or seeking amnesty under the offer.
The Committee of Seventy submitted a report to the Reform Council criticizing the Albany lobby for blocking reform measures. It urges electing a Reform Governor and cites alleged fraudulent warrants signed by Alderman Thomas Coman during 1868. The session adjourned. a major explosion near Maiden Lane killed two on the tug Epsilon and injured several others, with rescue efforts ongoing.
Injured seamen and dock workers were rushed to Park Hospital after an explosion at the Townsend dry dock pier 5 East River. Names include Bernard Currie John Bishop Anderson William Parsons Chas Mitchell and William Kenny. Cause of the explosion remains undetermined.
Washington dispatch reports Minister Schenck confirming British amendment acceptable and Senate ratification expected promptly. Government offices will close May 30 to allow employees to help decorate graves of soldiers at national cemeteries around Washington.
A large gathering in Philadelphia convened to form a Greenley and Brown club with John W. Anielection presiding. Joseph Jefferies Vindexts was named as a key official, and drafts for roles including J H Wilkin ponding Secretary and Charles W Wilson were noted. Newspaper desks for the National Republican Convention were to be requested by correspondents. A fatal boiler explosion at Froth Gordon Byron plant injured several, including Augusta Schaffer, age sixteen. Hugh Doherty and James Mora, earlier convicted for attempted murder of a detective, were pardoned by Governor Geary.
Widows and others hire two top lawyers for 5000 dollars to secure rights to relief funds amid unrest. The Chicago Relief and Aid Society dismisses the movement. A church property suit targets Rev. Chas E Cheney with injunction sought from Christchurch. Bishop Whitehouse backs the action.
In Memphis Tennessee on May 27 excitement grows after three more human remains were found in an old vault, bringing the total to nineteen. Police have yet to obtain any clue to the mystery.
A barn at the Iowa House in Onawa Iowa burned Saturday evening at 6 o clock. Eight horses twenty hogs and fifty tons of hay were destroyed. Six horses belonged to Peck and company of Onawa and two to travelers. The blaze likely started from a cigar.
PhD Rt Johns Commandery Knights from Philadelphia arrived late night and were greeted by Boston brethren at the Revere House. They plan theater visits, a Wednesday reception at Masonic Temple, a grand ball at Horticultural Hall, and depart Thursday.
In Elizabeth New Jersey the Philadelphia line train struck the rear of a western bound Central line train. The flagman was intact and no blame assigned. A new Philadelphia engineer caused the crash with about six passengers hurt though none seriously. Augustus Stoner sustained a head cut and is among the injured.
Decoration Day at Spring Grove and other cemeteries Thursday includes trains from C H D depot for 25 cent round trip with multiple departures from 8 to 10:30. Procession forms at Fountain Square at 8:30 led by U S troops and garrison band under Gen. Gibson, decorates graves at 11 and 1, with a program at Spring Grove including hymn America prayer oration doxology and benediction. Donations of flowers accepted at the cemetery Lodge or Court and Vine streets until 8 a m.
The New Orleans Minstrels opened at Weed's to a packed house and praise their performance. Edwards Benedict Linden and Duprez are highlighted with a strong bill and finish. Tonight the National offers prizes drawing crowds and a China tea service already awarded to J. H. Kelley. Mrs Dexter at Pike’s Opera House promises a top program with Emma Cranch Julia Rive Newhall Haydon Barns and Jasiewicz set to assist. Dan Bryant arrives next week. Miss Lee Hudson the Mazepa artist sailed in on the Davenport and plans a Southern tour this fall.
At a regular meeting 29 members present the Board approved purchase of two lots priced at 10,000 for Magill Street and 5,250 for a Mount Auburn addition to the sixteenth district. The Budd lot issue was sent to the Lots Committee. Miss Augusta Pruess resigned as First district teacher. Miss Emily Pruess was appointed. Superintendent reports 20,251 pupils enrolled. election of two principals was postponed.
Court records from Hamilton District Court discuss motions to vacate judgments and mandamus petitions. Cases include Callan v Cincinnati and Chicago Railroad Co over term timing, Matris v Building and Loan Association, and Longworth heirs dispute on road bed condemnation. Probate matters admit Stephen Deis will and Henry Goeke administrator.
The will of Joel Baker disposing of about $90,000 in personal property was presented to the County Court and admitted to probate. Executors named are L. E. Baker and Stanley Baker. Mayor pro tem Perrin presided in Mayor Baker’s absence. Judge Pryor will be nominated for the Court of Appeals in Lexington tomorrow. About one thousand bodies remain in Graig Street burying ground with few moved due to burial-site confusion. Lée Crane, who cut Hermean Busse at a Buena Vista Democratic primary, was examined by the Mayor and discharged.
Newport public schools dismissed in memory of Mrs Anns Shields who died in Covington. City council adjourned session with President Berry in chair. Contract for 509 feet of drain pipe referred to city attorney. Police claims and sundry bills approved. Crown of Harris street petition referred to Internal Improvements. Hamlet street improvement ordinance passed. A prisoner escaped from guard house at the aot barracks and was pursued by soldiers. A man sought shelter for small pox at the Mayor's office. Episcopal clergy to gather for the Diocesan Convention this week.
On the morning Police Court docket listed 18 new and 8 continued cases. Notable items include a 30 day and $50 sentence for Wm Reed on repeated drunkenness and disorderly conduct, Alfred Kendal’s committal for a week for impersonation and begging, and a $3 fine for James Kummelfritz for overindulgence in Berlin Kummel.
In Dayton Ohio inmates of the Soldiers' Home plan a Decoration Day procession to the National Asylum Cemetery. The program includes prayers, memorial addresses, flower strewing by one armed veterans, hymns by the Excelsior Musical Society, a dirge by the Asylum Band, a memorial salute, an oration by Major General M F Force of Cincinnati, and a benediction. An unusually large attendance is anticipated.
Milford hosts the Clermont County Sunday School Union annual session from Friday nine o'clock morning through Thursday and Friday. Eminent speakers from the city join Clermont county workers to enrich the meetings. Express trains will stop at Milford during the two days of the convention. Citizens welcome all Winvore. A fire in the Maley building on Third street at five this morning caused by an unextinguished match on a bed was put out by officers with water.
The case to settle city difficulties is set for Friday. Syndicate Building Association meets this evening. Council met last evening with no major business. The clerk was ordered to obtain tax bill-books to write out tax bills and several small bills were ordered paid.
Two burglars entered the Burnet House near the C H and D depot at five in the morning and stole $31 from a pantaloons pocket. They were pursued and captured two miles south of Hamilton, held for preliminary examination, and the money recovered. Other notes include a failed safe entry at Dr B Marks's shop and a $90 pocket theft from Jacob Schwab. Funeral of Robert Benninghofer noted.
A historical land record notes May 28, 1872 transfer from John Sei Sr to John Seibel Jr. involving parcel directions in Mt Schuaeinig and adjacent divisions. Names include Alvis Jenner and Maveland area references with west half measurements and 16 by 40 feet details.
At the hotel in Bristol the Prince of Wales was entering his carriage when the horses bolted, overturning the vehicle. He escaped unhurt and there were no reports of injuries.
A stabbing on Orchard Street this morning left Christian Trefz dead after fatally stabbing his wife who refused to return home from living with Franz Lindermann. Lindermann was seriously wounded in the attack.
Memphis on May 28 reports that the site where nineteen skeletons were found was once a medical college. The institution existed about eighteen years ago and the exhumed remains were likely its former patients. Detone was arrested after a telegram from Cleveland alleging embezzlement. White, a Black man, has been convicted of first degree murder.

Two new cut-offs from recent high water at Pouse's 40 miles below Little Rock and Hensly's 55 miles below. The Hensly cut-off navigable, T. H. Allen passed through it Sunday. Pouse's cut-off is fifty yards wide with a rapid current.
New York markets report quiet cotton with prices at low middling to middling levels. Corn oats rye and barley show limited movement with oats around 40% to 41 cents for No 2. rye 75 to 78 cents. barley nominal. Hog and cattle quotes mixed with hogs up 10 to 15 cents and cattle steady around 5.75 to 6.00. Pork, lard, and hog futures reflect muted demand and broad price stability.
James M Whitehall Co Riddle Coleman Co filed a libel against the towboat Valid claiming 500 and 252 dollars for coal furnished the steamer. Steamer attached. A report from Brown County says locusts swarm Georgetown Higginsport threatening crops. Personal Eugene Willard Hanging Rock and C Olhaber were Telegraph passengers.
