London reports a growing sailor strike in Southampton where many seamen demand higher wages and fewer hands aboard. Strike violence impedes replacement crews, requiring authorities to intervene amid rising fears for ship traffic and port activity. A disaster update from Vellore India describes a devastating cyclone flood inundating the town, killing and displacing thousands and destroying crops and homes.

A May report from Leavenworth describes Deputy U S Marshal Joe Peevy leading a posse against the outlaw Zeke Proctor at Birdcreek in the Cherokee Nation. Five of Peevy’s men were killed and eight wounded. six outlaws lay dead, with several others wounded. Peevy was lightly hurt and his horse killed. Proctor escaped amid nationwide excitement.
Wm Smith, jailed in Detroit on the arson of a barn at Kcorz nine miles away, pleads guilty to murder of Dennison Miller in Greenfield seven miles from Detroit last November. He faces additional charges including attempting to derail a Michigan Central train and is deemed a lunatic by officers.
Gilbert Prion and Howard M Hamlin two cousins were arrested and held for trial in Boston for conspiring to burn Hamlin s building to obtain a 15000 insurance payoff. Hamlin had government service duties. The Massachusetts Legislature adjourned tonight after a notably brief session.
A basement fire at the Opera House block in Grand Rapids was discovered near 1.6 o clock yesterday morning. The blaze threatened Squires Opera House and Marshall's European Hotel along with six stores, a paint and putty factory, and a touring mill as water streams failed to stop the flames for nearly an hour.

The Kentucky court house burned last night causing about 20000 dollars in losses. Ingersoll reports two men C C Pain and John Armand burned to death in the fire with friends unable to help. Property losses exceed 500000 dollars across the area.
