Memphis on May 7 reports farmer W. A. Bell six miles from Bartleth was waylaid and killed last night with no clue to the culprit. The body found this morning near his home and partly eaten by hogs. In Hatchie river the Oil City stern-wheel boat sank after striking a snag with losses of 25000. The Excelsior ferry damaged and sunk near a bar above town with 5000 loss.
The sixth annual meeting of the Ladies' Depository society met yesterday at 162 Plum Street. Reports from Secretary Miss Anna P. McIlvaine and Treasurer Mrs. John Swasey were read and accepted. Officers for the coming year include President Mrs. Wm Resor and Treasurer Mrs. John Swasey. Rooms will move to Broadway after June 1. permits available from managers or the Monthly Committee meeting Saturdays at the Depository. Adjourned. Petit Jury for the April term discharged by United States Circuit Court.
