Ottawa March 22 The western terminus of the St Lawrence and Ottawa railroad saw a striking scene as trains arrived led by a massive snow plow and two powerful engines. Drifts along seven miles measured 4 to 16 feet, revealing severe conditions despite milder weather.
Senate vote in Jackson approved an act to fund the Mississippi floating debt by issuing 1,000,000 dollars in bonds at 8 percent payable semi annually. In Shel byville unknown assailant killed Michael Murphy in his sleep, looted the safe, and set fire to the store warehouse near the depot. The building owned by C Moorman, valued at six thousand dollars and insured for 2500, burned completely with Murphy's charred remains found afterward. No perpetrator is yet identified. The Edgefield and Kentucky depot at Fort's station also burned at night, with substantial merchandise loss, suspected accidental.

In St Paul on March 22 two quarry workers at Robert Horn's Fourth Ward quarry were fatally injured by an accidental blast. A Streight train collision near Hancock Station on the St Paul and Pacific line killed conductor Fitzgerald and another man, with several others badly hurt while refilling water.
A trapeze performer known as Kitty Wren was shot in the neck at Madison House on Main Street as her husband James C. Davis or Howells claimed the pistol accidentally discharged while attempting to uncock it. The coroner scheduled an inquest this afternoon.
