Paris March 8 reports the recall of Duke De Broglie as French minister at the Court of St James. M. Bielen will be the new ambassador to Germany, with M. Powyer Quertier succeeding him in Berlin. Goulard appointed to cabinet to fill Quertier’s resignation. in London March 7 the Marquis of Lorne and Princess Louise visit Paris and show support for restoring the Bonapartist dynasty.
Washington reports Secretary Belknap acknowledged large arms and ammunition deliveries to French agents and that purchases were for the French Government. Senator Schurz pressed Belknap as House Commerce approves a $500000 subsidy bill for Webb’s Australian line steamers.
A fierce March snowstorm paralyzes rails and streetcars with snow plows clearing streets while building work stops. Woolen Manufacturers' Association of the Northwest votes to host an August exposition in Chicago inviting textile makers and raw material producers. From Jackson Illinois, ex Senator Richard Yates shows improved condition after illness. In Boston four men found dead from possible carbon monoxide exposure in a Cabot street basement. a mayor’s villa in West Roxbury is destroyed by fire, $22 000 loss, $20 000 insured.
A Newport barn owned by A. D. Deblars burned last night causing about 5000 dollars in damage. The Fire Department’s rapid action prevented a larger loss. In Providence the Army of the Potomac Artillery Association adopted a constitution and bylaws with Gen W F Barry elected president and a Boston meeting set for June 19. In Quincy an officer shot at a prisoner during a handover and the culprit escaped. the wound was not fatal.
In New York on March 7 a string of arraignments occurred with James Costello and Jeremiah Evans pleading not guilty to murder indictments. Also John Morrison, Robert Perkinson, Joseph Peck, Pat Malone and Daniel Morrow pleaded not guilty to manslaughter charges. A Bellevue Hospital death by suicide of Rosé Murray aged twenty five drew attention amid court actions, while Andrew Garvey surprised spectators by appearing as a State’s witness against Mayor Hall. The day included Civil Service reform debate and Senate votes on related measures.
A New York Central express leaving Buffalo was derailed two miles beyond East Buffalo after a bolt let down the driving rod. the smoking car and two coaches overturned or toppled, but no one was killed. Several passengers sustained serious injuries and were cared for at local hotels by Dr. Miner.
Louisville dispatch reports Spencer Prewitt and his sons William and Benjamin, aged about fourteen and twelve, brought to Louisville from Seymour Indiana on murder charges in Fannin County Georgia. Prewitt previously escaped prison in February 1871. They are committed for sixty days awaiting Governor requisition.

A farmer visiting a Memphis suburb left his young son in a wagon while he shopped. The cold caused the child to fall into a stupor and die before the father could locate the wagon and boy. The horses returned home alone as authorities were summoned.
