Des Moines reports Merrill’s message noting state assets of 1 769 523 and expenditures of 1 973 942 with a debt of 300 000 excluding school fund bonds. The Board of Indian Commissioners gather in the city except Hon. W. E. Dodge as daily conferences proceed. Secretary to attend. Friday night they visited Delano's house with many interested in Indian affairs. A Treasury statement to the House concerns General Bullock’s suspension and large account discrepancies. Stokes remains cheerful and unconcerned, and the coroner’s verdict prompts no immediate action pending District Attorney advice.
Special Dispatch from Columbus reports the Senate debated correcting the journal to show the vote for U S Senator was announced by the Lieut Governor before voting finished. After a lengthy dispute the measure failed 17 to 18 with Republicans Casement and Howard siding with Democrats. House motions were ruled out of order.

A chaotic Ohio Joint Convention in the House elected John Sherman by a 73 to 64 vote after Democrats attempted to switch votes to Cox. Lieutenant-Governor Mueller announced the result amid protests and threats of further changes, sparking wide opposition and a formal protest from Democrats.
The State charged William McHugh with robbing elderly Hewson at 264 West Sixth Street on December 1. Hewson testified McHugh struck him and stole about six to seven dollars. McHugh contends he merely borrowed seventy five cents and was inadvertently hurt in a fall.
In a crowded session Judge Avery and a jury hear cases from assault and battery to divorce. McHugh and Red face verdicts while McQuade calls police as a boy is harmed. Separately Joel Gibbs versus Susan Gibbs ends with a cruelty claim and a possible divorce linked to Shaker affiliation and property division.
