Village station agent salary question sparks PSC review

The Public Service Commission confronted a case in Colway near Syracuse where a village station agent holds three jobs under federal control, drawing 7,730 annually with 2,418 paid to help. He sells about 300 tickets monthly and also works for Western Union and the American Railway Express. The commission denied United States Railroad Administration’s petition to discontinue the Solway agent, suggesting policy revision to cut compensation rather than remove service.

The horrors of peace include money sunk in wild cat stocks

Oil Discovery in England Might Shift Global Oil Map

The New York Sun reports a Derbyshire Devonshire estate oil find with expert suggesting England could rival Pennsylvania. With 1916 UK imports at 100 million dollars, home production would ease scarce shipping and reduce coal reliance.
