Local lawyers oppose new court expansion in county
In Hartford, state officials told the judiciary committee opposition runs strong against a proposed court for southern towns. State's Attorney Ernest A. Inglis argued the court is needed, citing that 14 of 128 civil cases and 6 of 36 criminal cases would fall under its jurisdiction. Opponents fear inconvenience to residents in the north end and warn use of state funds is excessive. Supporters from Haddam Saybrook Old Saybrook Clinton Chester Essex and Cromwell urged accommodation for Saybrook residents.
