Death of Mrs McCabe at Moriarty Funeral Held

Mrs Pearl McCabe wife of Frank McCabe of Moriarty died October 8 1908 after illness. Funeral held Friday afternoon at Estancia Cemetery. She had been moved to St Vincent hospital Santa Fe but died in the early morning. She leaves two children aged two and four.

Harry Baker Atkinson died at his parents home northwest of Estancia at 2 p m on October 12 1908 from measles that settled on his lungs after nearly a year He was 81 years 8 months and 2 days old Born in Milan County Texas he came to New Mexico eight years ago A strong man he held influential roles in territorial affairs and church life He helped develop Estancia and the neighboring community His funeral was at the home officiated by Rev Randolph Garver with a large cortege to the cemetery reflecting wide respect for his life and service

Valley resident breaks limb in wagon accident

Breaks limb Henry Boyle, a recent Valley arrival, was loading salt for J H Buckelew when a slip while mounting the wagon left his leg crushed under the wheels. He hopped to stop the team after calling for a surgeon. Dr. Mason and Dr. Boyd reduced the fracture. He has no home here and Buckelew has him at the ranch until he can leave again, the Hearst cup. The rest of the passage lists many prize awards at the exposition, naming winners in sugar beets, sewing machine gear, truck-gardening, cotton, brewing barley, vegetables, chili, squashes, and related prizes, with places such as San Francisco, Pajarito NM, Phoenix, Del Norte CO, Albuquerque, Cruces NM, and Brigham City UT.

Spud Grower Castagna Brings Sizeable Potatoes to Town

More Spuds by Joe Castagna, resident five miles southwest of Estancia, shows good samples in town on Wednesday. Each potato averaged about one and a fourth pounds. He stores several hundred bushels, ensuring food supplies for a while. The Estancia Valley is poised to gain further renown for potatoes.
