Local readers highlight Torrance county clerk and probate office flaws in record keeping and access. Issues include misfiled instruments, missing consent in underage marriages, and incomplete publication of county financial abstracts.
Julius Meyer, longtime member of the Territorial Mounted Police, resigns after Governor Curry offered him the option to quit the force to pursue the Democratic ticket for sheriff in Torrance County. Meyer declined, which boosted his standing with local voters who recall Curry’s switch to Roosevelt Democrat.
The Estancia Choral Club presents a musical program at 7:45 o clock next Tuesday evening at the Baptist Church. The program features orchestra, hymns, soloists including Leslie and Koven, piano duets, quartets, and a chorus with selections such as The Holy City and Nearest My God to Thee. Admission is 25 and 15 cents. Rev J R Carver will preach at the local Methodist church next Sunday at 11 00. All welcome.
At Albuquerque premiums the Hughes Mercantile Company awarded one hundred dollars for best exhibit of farm products grown by one farmer without irrigation. S. W. Hightower of Estancia won first prize. numerous locals near Estancia received awards for vegetables and farm products as part of the Sixteenth National Irrigation Congress.
About 150 residents gathered at the Estancia Methodist Church to hear Hon. D A Larrazolo and other Democratic candidates. Speakers criticized party bosses, touted good government, and questioned statehood pledges as they urged support for the Democratic slate.
