Mountainair Saloons Targeted in Permanent Injunction

In Alamogordo the Sixth Judicial District Court grants a permanent injunction sought by Mountainair residents against JA McKinley and Deotes Torres. City residents claim Mountainair now meets habitation requirements and aims to keep saloons out. Rumors say prosecutions may follow for alleged license fraud.

School Notes and Attendance From Local District

The irregular notes report illness and school attendance. Ewing Minor remains very ill while Riley Lee returns to class. Several students, including Leonard Paul and Chester Baker, rejoined or enrolled after absences. Albuquerque visitors Kathrine Lesaier and Lincoln Chavez attended the fair. Minnie Brumback local agent for St Paul Fire and Marine Co received a draft for 997.23 this week in settlement of the loss from the bakery fire on August 22 caused by O Tuttle. The firm has previously settled losses for others associated with the incident.

Willard Attorney Loses Home In Early Week Fire

Willard attorney Jennings of Willid was in Nstancia on business near day when fire destroyed his home by evening. He had left with children to hear a graphophone and returned to find the house in flames. Everything was burned and loss was total though the insured amount will cover part. The fire’s origin is unknown.

Builders Busy in Estancia Amid Expanding Structures

In Estancia, carpenters stay busy as several projects advance. A county jail wing at 34 by 14 feet nears completion. Romero Planing Mill adds a 10 by 60 foot work area with roofing, siding, and machinery to follow. Nearby, Elgin, Hessles, and local firms push homes, shops, and bank and drug building work as hard times seem not to slow construction.

Culberson of Culberson Construction plans to build the Albuquerque Eastern line for A L Richmond and associates of Pittsburgh. J R Barwell to head the first engineering corps. Farwell and men depart for Hagan Thursday. two more corps to follow. Equipment from Denver. Culberson to supervise all construction and improve the Moriarty to Hagan survey with a heavier but smoother grade to aid locomotives. Plan to haul coal out of Hagan before Christmas.

Joe Took a Tumble Joe Leader Boy Harrow Escape

Joe Took a Tumble Joe, the Leader Boy, narrowly escaped serious injury after falling from the DeBruler stable roof on Tuesday. He was playing with other boys and the fall injured neck muscles, causing him to carry his head proudly on Wednesday. Local readers hope no further harm comes to this pleasant daily caller.

Albuquerque Couple Weds in City Residence

William M. Nichols of Belen and Miss Lyle Hanlon of Mountainair were married at 9 PM at 817 North Street. Dr Charles Bens performed the ceremony. The couple will reside in San Mariel and begin a southern honeymoon trip. Nichols is a Santa Fe conductor. Hanlon comes from a prominent Mountainair family.
