Slaughter of Rabbits Drives North of Town

A rabbit drive north of town last Tuesday slaughtered a couple of hundred rabbits. The afternoon drive pleased participants more than the morning. Fourteen goats were barbecued along with bread and coffee for the drivers. Jack Kelley had a headfirst fall from his horse but recovered and continued. A large crowd joined last Friday’s drive as merchants closed shops. Another drive is planned today northeast of town and may continue until the area is cleared. The McIntosh community held a small drive last Monday with another planned for yesterday. On Wednesday the 25th locals near Moriarty will meet at Geo Bradley’s with shotguns at ten o’clock for a road march south. No boys or rifles allowed. hunters on foot. Another rabbit drive is scheduled at Willard for tomorrow.

Change in Postmasters at Estancia Office

Miguel Romero received official notice of his appointment as postmaster at Estancia and yesterday morning took charge to succeed H. B. Hawkins. The office has grown to extensive business and Romero has not yet decided on an assistant, promising to give the office his personal attention for the present.

Eagle Will Scream At Estancia On The Fourth

The committee for Estancia’s Glorious Fourth plans a full day of events with a brass band, speeches, games, dancing, and a Santa Fe vs Estancia ball game under the trees by the spring. A basket dinner and lunch stands will feed attendees with meals at reasonable rates. railroad rates are available from several points. J C Peterson will supervise the sale of privileges for stands tomorrow at 2 near the post office.

School Funds in Torrance Districts Reported

The article lists the amounts of school moneys on hand for Torrance districts with a total such as 1203.65, credited to Supt. C. Jaramillo. It also notes T. J. Franklin’s takeover of the Alamo Hotel and his plans to run a wastelass house using top meats and groceries.

Planting Potatoes by Dr Edmonston in Estancia Valley

Dr J F Edmonston, who set out over ten thousand fruit trees last spring, has planted 1050 pounds of potatoes in his orchard northwest of town. He also grows six acres of beans and has onion seed being planted. Edmonston and partner Mr Vivian push farming, betting on the valley’s prospects and contrasting with idle homesteaders.

Santa Fe Central Offers Half Fare Party Tickets

General Passenger Agent B Grimshaw of Santa Fe Central issues instructions to agents to sell party tickets for ten or more persons on a single ticket at one half the regular fare effective July 2, 1907. Applies to both one way and round trip readings.

An Inch More of Rainfall

Rainfall continues with a Sunday night shower covering the valley. Estancia reports forty seven one hundredths of an inch, and a Wednesday evening storm increased the weekly total to nine tenths. Crops seem fair but cold nights slow growth. Despite warmth, temperatures stayed modest this month.

Benedict Couple Weds in Lexington Oklahoma

Claud Nisbett returns from Oklahoma trip with bride Zula Rolater. They wed at the bride’s parents home in Lexington on the 12th. The couple will reside on the homestead northeast of town and are wished a long life and happiness.

Campers Head to Hills for Several Days Outing

A party of campers left yesterday morning to spend several days in camp in the hills. The group includes Mr and Mrs Lee Scott and son Sheldon, Mr and Mrs J F Lasater, Misses Sheldon Whitted Duke McGhee Pence Averill and Nisbett, and Messrs McGhee Fisher Pettus Tuttle and Cobb. They expect to return Saturday.
