Estancia company hears plan to drill 2000 feet deep well

At a stockholders meeting in this city last Saturday EB A Mayo of Tularosa NM proposed a rotary drill to depths up to 3000 feet with a contract guaranteeing a 2000 to 9000 foot sink. Costs range from 1920 for 1000 feet to 4610 for 2000 feet plus derrick and four inch casing. About 2900 has been raised. a minimum 4000 is required before starting.

Dance at McIntosh Planned for August 20 Ball

The McIntosh people plan a grand ball at the new Mill building on Thursday night August 20. Governor Curry and territorial officials, plus Santa Fe Central officials, are expected to attend. Refreshments will be served. Proceeds go to seating the schoolhouse.

Tall Oats Grown by Estancia Farmer’s Son

Anastacio Torres, living about six miles southwest of Estancia, reports one acre of oats sown by his son as an experiment. The stalks reach five feet nine inches with long heads well filled with grain, a crop to be proud of.

Seed Wheat Arrives From Kansas At McIntosh Mill

A telephone message from R. O. So per secretary of the McIntosh Mill and Elevator Company announces arrival of a car of seed wheat shipped from Kansas. Price is set at 1.25 dollars per bushel. Prospective buyers urged to call early and bring sacks.

Escapade of Green the Banker Leads to Wild Hunt

On the morning of the seventh, A J Green rode to hunt coyotes before breakfast and released his horse to watch hounds. Mrs Green, fearing an accident, formed a search party to fetch the doctor. Green hid in a cornfield and returned home after the rescue party passed, still having the coyote scalp.

Grown Good Potatoes Exhibit From Estancia Ranch

S W Hightower visited Estancia from his ranch southwest of town with a display of garden produce for city folk including unusually large potatoes weighing over a pound each. He expects about three hundred bushels this year and notes his claim borders the old Carpenter grant once thought unsuitable for potatoes.

Send Exhibit to Alamosa

A group of Estancia business men met at the New Mexico Realty Company to plan sending a display to the Alamosa land opening and fair in Colorado next week. Neal Jenson was chosen to accompany the exhibit with committees to secure the exhibit funds and printed matter. He expects to depart today to reach Alamosa by Monday to meet homeseekers from the east and promote Valley agriculture.

Railroad Prospects From Moriarty To Albuquerque

A Santa Fe Central group visits Estancia and Moriarty to promote a new line toward Albuquerque. Officers Robert Law and colleagues report the grading outfit is en route and work will begin soon with surveys and a consolidation of New Mexico rail interests. The party travels by train from Estancia to Torrance then returns, later continuing overland toward Albuquerque.

Surprise Birthday Party for Mrs Hoover Near Es tancia
