Echo Wool Scouring Mill Tops Nation in Output

Wool arriving daily with 1,000,000 pounds ordered. Echo Wool Growers' Scouring mill, under Superintendent Ross, runs seven days a week with overtime. Last Friday's 10 hour shift: 40,000 pounds graded, 42,000 pounds unloaded, 68,000 pounds scoured loaded for shipment, 11,000 pounds scoured. A Boston wool buyer praised Echo for superior work, noting its wider 4 by 107 foot machinery versus other mills' 8 by 90 foot setups.

Wool Cleaning Improves as Echo Plant Receives Wool

For the week ending Saturday last 16 carloads of wool had been received at the Echo plant for scouring, and more enroute. The shipment level indicates rising throughput and ongoing supply to the facility.

King Jones Wedding in Walla Walla

The wedding of Horace W. King and Mabel Jones took place June 8 1909 at the bride's parents home in Walla Walla. King, known in Echo for civil engineering with reclamation work, and Jones, a Walla Walla teacher, receive congratulations as they depart for a brief honeymoon to Portland and Seattle.

Anxious to sell mowers lure farmer with loaned machines

A merchant near a distant town aggressively pushed a mower sale to farmers. He loaned a prominent farmer two machines and delivered them to his home with setup. The next morning the farmer found missing oil and whips, prompting a call to the merchant, who soon supplied the missing items. The farmer mocks the gullibility of would be buyers.

Oregon Pioneer O F Thomson Dies in Echo Era

Eastern Oregon mourns Oscar F Thomson a pioneer and Echo resident who died Friday morning June 4 after a year long illness of stomach cancer. He helped found irrigation in Umatilla County and served as sheriff before moving to Butte Creek near Echo. He left a widow Susan Almira Atwood Thomson and ten children, plus ten grandchildren and three brothers.
