Western Land and Irrigation Co Nearing Completion
The Western Land and Irrigation Company led by J. W. Messner and others is progressing on a major arid land reclamation project near Echo and Umatilla River. Concrete head gate dam work advances, 400 foot dam planned for low water, main canal 30 feet bottom first six miles then 20 feet, with water already in canal to irrigate. The project covers 15,000 acres with 3,000 owned by the company and aims to provide ample irrigation next year.

Saddle stolen from Buttercreek home recovered in search
About a year after the theft of a stride saddle belonging to A B Thomson’s young daughter the saddle resurfaced with a suspect’s relative. A search warrant led deputies to R H Jones’s Butter creek residence where the saddle was found hidden in a boarded room. A warrant is out for Jones’s arrest as officers pursue him.
