Rev and Mrs Drew left Diller for Lincoln Tuesday starting the moving phase of a young Methodist minister. Another minister, Rev H H Proett and his son, moved into the parsonage and are arranging their residence there.
Page three of the Record announces a switch from the funnies to Floyd Gibbons driven true adventure stories. The veteran radio commentator is praised for his ability to cram words into short broadcasts and fill two columns with thrilling narrated adventures.
A very charming young lady Sandra Joan Ahrends has taken up her future home at the residence of Will Ahrends and Mrs. Ahrends Eulida Hughes. Saturday age 21 a weight of 8 lbs 4.0 She has become a most welcome guest All parties concerned doing nicely.
The Lanham Mercantile company starts building a new brick block at a cost of $12,000 to replace its fire-destroyed frame store from January. William Webling is listed as manager.
In the city hall last Friday afternoon about the usual crowd attended the farmers meeting. Fourteen were present to hear G W Arnold explain the new wheat contract.
Sam Thompson accompanied Mr. Elsworth of Beatrice to Omaha Tuesday where the former purchased a new Dodge truck. Sam Thompson and his son Wayne of Lincoln run a trucking business and plan to add a second outfit.
After two to three days of threatening weather with high winds and heavy dust, it began raining around six o'clock Wednesday evening and continued for three to four hours. An inch and seventy hundredths fell.
Chas. Osborn paused Saturday afternoon while traveling from Haddam Kansas to Lincoln. He is currently spending much time in Haddam helping care for an ailing elder brother.

G W Arnold addressed about thirty farmers at Harbine school house when his son warned that a barn was on fire. The blaze confined to the larger barn and a corn crib, burning 300 bushels of wheat 1000 bushels of oats eight tons of alfalfa hay and straw. Fire likely started from damp straw spontaneous combustion. Insurance partially covered the loss.
Nancy Lee Goldsberry was welcomed at the Floyd Goldsberry home in Washington on Sept. 21, making her the seventh daughter in the family. The birth grants Mrs. Mary Willems the title of great grandmother, with two great grandmothers aboard. The Goldsberry home recently hosted three stork showers from Mrs. Wm. Novotny, Mrs. Lowell Blair, Mrs. G. McLaughlin, Mrs. Walter Wilson, and Miss Marie Distill, with Mrs. Scott Miller as an invited guest.
The Daykin high school concentrates on music this term as Mrs. Margaret Christianson, wife of the superintendent, forms a 28 piece orchestra. The Herald notes she offers free individual instrument lessons to supplement ensemble rehearsals. She graduated from Beethoven Conservatory in St. Louis and has ten years of experience with bands and orchestras.
The Auburn American Legion drum and bugle corps, winners of the 1935 Nebraska championship at Beatrice, attended the national annual convention in St. Louis this week and competed in the national drum and bugle corps contests. Local Auburn businessmen funded the trip.
Howard Vernon, known as the Fairbury bad boy, received a life sentence at Fort Madison penitentiary last Wednesday in Sioux City Iowa. He was found guilty of taking part in the July 25 raid on Pioneer Valley Savings Bank in Bluff Iowa and related charges.
Mr and Mrs Roy Hester and Mrs Hester head father William Headley of Waterloo Nebraska spent from Wednesday night until Friday at the W D Delano home in Seentany. The text notes Headley is a brother of Mrs.

In Jefferson County the Agricultural Agent notes a fall seeding window with an average safe date of September 29 but rains may allow earlier planting. A Nebraska survey finds only a light Hessian fly presence, so farmers should seed once ground is ready and bury volunteer wheat to prevent fly buildup.
United States citizens residing abroad total more than 400000 with over half in Canada. Europe hosts about 24000 Americans, Portugal follows, 124 choose the Society Islands, Latin America draws many Cuba and Mexico natives, and some return by naturalization or exile to avoid imprisonment.
Fire started in the kitchen at the Harry King residence on Penrod street West Beatrice Friday around four oclock. The blaze damaged the dining room and smoke affected part of the upper floor. Loss estimated between 1000 and 1500 dollars, reportedly insured.
The State Journal reports no immediate action on the Jamaica Methodist church case. Rev W L Hadsell, dismissed from the state conference, preached both morning and evening. The pulpit committee’s report to keep him as minister was unanimously adopted by the congregation. Miss Mary Turnbull, appointed to fill the pulpit, did not appear for services. Officials expect no conference action soon and plan reforms to submit to conference including bishops for fixed years and layman role clarity.
Miss Rosa Drath daughter of F B Drath Herndon Kansas wed Richard Mayborn son of O J Mayborn Clinton Iowa Saturday morning at the bride’s home Rev Erickson officiated before twenty five guests. The couple will reside in Clinton after a brief stay in Kansas City.
Mr and Mrs Bonsor of Lincoln fished at DeWitt where Mrs Bonsor hooked a 30 pound catfish. Frightened she decided to quit fishing as the fish escaped the line and became entangled, prompting Mr Bonsor to wade into the river and recover the catch.
A station attendant misheard a customer’s request and believed he asked for five gallons of gasoline. After clarification the clerk realized the customer meant a different term, revealing a miscommunication at the pump and prompting a correction.

LeRoy Hurst, 56, died at his Wymore home last Friday night from a stroke of paralysis. Funeral services were held at the Baptist church Monday afternoon, with burial in Wymore cemetery. He leaves three children Harold Hurst, Mrs. Erylie Luther of Beatrice, and Lloyd M. Hurst of Diller. The foregoing relatives attended the services.
