Notary public at the Recoup office and Nelsons mirror line attract attention. Hogs, cows, and sewing machines are featured for sale along with plans for home building and stock markets. Local residents including Olive Ballard, Charley Hunnicutt, Jessie Condon, and J. Starkey are noted for travels, purchases, and real estate activity in Diller and Clark's addition.
The board of county commissioners at the last session instructed the county treasurer to issue tax sale certificates to Jefferson county for all descriptions of real estate with taxes delinquent for four years or more.
A brief office notice mentions a canary bird praised as a good singer and a reminder to Sue not to spit on cement walk areas.
Insurance advertised against fire lightning and wind storms at the Record office. Carl Gale had horses in the Wymore races. Arthur Price and wife returned from Topeka. John Langworthy bought cast 80 of A M Davis farm near Harbine for 4000. J L Lamb and Ruth Lamb visited Beatrice. Nelson's offers beds tables and side boards. Mrs S P Ross visited the editor's family from Fairbury. Stark Hayes returned to Whatcom Wash. Local note on pacer and troste. Mrs Harry Davie at Sycamore Springs for rheumatism. Patton's Sun Proof Paints sold by J O Blauser. Mrs Calkins visiting Winn ie Calkins in Rock Creek. Mrs T P Price and Elma Oaks visiting York with Mr Price to Lincoln. M E Gear to move to town and sell stock and household goods October 6.
Carmichael has been very sick for some time and Tuesday night Dr. Fall of Beatrice and Dr. Taylor of Steele City were called in consultation with Dr. Neely. The doctors do not agree exactly as to her ailment.
An old time advertising blurb promotes Cascarets as a natural aid to keep the liver and bowels active and avoid sickness. It claims six million people use the product and suggests trying a 10 cent box, available at all druggists.
The Republican float representative and senatorial conventions for Jefferson and Thayer counties met at Fairbury Wednesday of last week. Senator W H Jennings of Davenport and Representative D B Cropsey were renominated by acclamation and without opposition.
Several small ads and notices list sales and auctions including a young Shorthorn bull for sale by Herman Sasee and six Poland China males. Other items note a meeting of Diller teachers September 24 and a county commissioners session October 4. Local political action lists T. J. DeKalb and Chas Stark as nominees from Fairbury area.
Notice to Tax Payers for 1904 taxes now due. Delinquent taxes incur 10 percent interest from December 1. St S R McERRELL Co Treasurer signed the notice.

Mr and Mrs Josh Robertson Mr and Mrs D Steiner Alf Waggoner Temple Pierce Jesse Pierce Mrs Annie M Diller and Willis Sutliff left Diller for St Louis on the B and M Tuesday for the fair. Llewellyn London also went but yesterday. They all paid seven dollars seventy five cents for the round trip.
Democratic and populist primary selections announced for Pleasant precinct held Wednesday evening last week. Ticket includes Justice J E Clark and Constable Fred Clark. Road Supervisors Dist 23 John Senior Dist 38 Jag Logan Dist 46 New London 49 Jacob Walters. Also recommended for judge C L E Blauser and clerk of election Charles Waggoner.
An aged soldier J. J. Havens of Versailles feared ruin from kidney and stomach ailments. He found relief with Electric Bitters, reporting rapid recovery and renewed health. The drug is advertised as best for liver and kidney troubles and stomach and bowel complaints, 50 cents guaranteed by Spear Drug Company.
The tenth grade largely drops Latin after one year and opts for Arithmetic review. Two new pupils join the Primary room this week. New books arrive and are valued by pupils. Vocal period is enjoyed, especially by the Primary group. Elsie McManes joins the High School and Harris enters the Intermediate room this week. Mabel Kurtz visited the High School last week.
Geo Drew returns from Bepeeler. A Diller party heads to Wy for races on No 16. Babcock and H Clapp come from Steele City for telephone business. Alta Lunt visits from Superior en route to St Louis exposition. J W Sutton moves from Tahlequah to establish a drug store. Anderson Bells visit brother Alex Bell and discuss J T Bell estate settlement.
An advertisement touts Dr. Kings New Life Pills as a mild thorough remedy for irregular living causing derangement of organs and symptoms like constipation headaches or liver trouble. Sold for 25c at Spear's.
Otho Sears, a resident near Ellis and brother of Mrs. H E Grupe of Diller, broke his right arm above the elbow while pitching in a neighborhood game against a Blue Springs team. The fracture was set at a Blue Springs doctor's shop and he is recovering but not certain to play soon.
Citizens praised for perseverance as spring election questioned license. Majority favored no license, remonstrators challenged the board’s grant in court. Judge Kelligar of the district court ruled in favor of the remonstrators, a signal victory for orderly opposition.
A Fairbury Journal item urges fruit sellers to advertise and signal sales clearly. It notes a country vendor failed to move peaches at 25 cents a bushel and stresses wagons need signs or public alerts to attract customers.
George Miller and Clara Behrends were married Wednesday morning at the Lutheran church. The couple, both from local farming families, will reside with the groom’s parents. A reception at the bride’s home followed with about two hundred guests, dinner, dancing, and contests.
J C Blauser visits Fairbury today while O J Mayborn cashier of Diller State Bank conducts business at Beatrice. Invitations issued for the marriage of Roy Diller and Myrtle Oaks at Myrtle’s parents home on Tuesday October 4. Al Hutchinson returns from Oklahoma and southern Kansas to Diller seeking business, visiting relatives across Beatrice and nearby.
A new company organized in Diller aims to manufacture Acetylene gas for lighting. The town proceeds with 7000 feet of cement sidewalk as part of modern improvements, signaling rising prosperity and the potential to outpace neighboring communities.
A twelve year old daughter of Gus Doehring near Gladstone died of lockjaw after injuring her foot two weeks earlier. She likely believed the wound had healed when the illness took hold. The funeral will be held from the epi church today.
W H Brown of Leesville Indiana describes lasting relief from asthma after using a cough and cold remedy. In Fairbury lawyer L. E. Blauser pursued an outstanding Kansas debt. He returned a forged two dollar bill to the borrower with a sharp note asking for a genuine payment. Months later the debtor apologized for the delay and sent another counterfeit bill, claiming previous ones were just as good.
County commissioners last week granted a right of way for a wagon road through Clark's farm west of town. Clark asked 350 damages, the board awarded 250, and Lincoln Land Co. claim was rejected. A subscription quickly raised the 100 difference plus 20 for the Lincoln claim, totaling 120, with Clark contributing 25 and others adding funds. The road will serve residents west of Diller, easing access for the western townside.
Musical Instinct will seek sweetness of tone while the trained ear requires volume and range offered by the G A White Piano Co in Fairbury.
Burlington Route offers $4.05 round trip from October 3 to 7 for Ak-Sar-Ben events. Carnival daily with a spectacular electric parade on Thursday October 6 and the Ak-Sar-Ben ball on October 7. Inquire at the ticket office for details.
