The board of county commissioners at the last session instructed the county treasurer to issue tax sale certificates to Jefferson county for all descriptions of real estate with taxes delinquent for four years or more.

Doctors Confer Over Mrs. Ensley Illness

Carmichael has been very sick for some time and Tuesday night Dr. Fall of Beatrice and Dr. Taylor of Steele City were called in consultation with Dr. Neely. The doctors do not agree exactly as to her ailment.

The Republican float representative and senatorial conventions for Jefferson and Thayer counties met at Fairbury Wednesday of last week. Senator W H Jennings of Davenport and Representative D B Cropsey were renominated by acclamation and without opposition.

Mr and Mrs Josh Robertson Mr and Mrs D Steiner Alf Waggoner Temple Pierce Jesse Pierce Mrs Annie M Diller and Willis Sutliff left Diller for St Louis on the B and M Tuesday for the fair. Llewellyn London also went but yesterday. They all paid seven dollars seventy five cents for the round trip.

School Notes Reflect Change in Latin Curriculum

The tenth grade largely drops Latin after one year and opts for Arithmetic review. Two new pupils join the Primary room this week. New books arrive and are valued by pupils. Vocal period is enjoyed, especially by the Primary group. Elsie McManes joins the High School and Harris enters the Intermediate room this week. Mabel Kurtz visited the High School last week.

Otho Sears, a resident near Ellis and brother of Mrs. H E Grupe of Diller, broke his right arm above the elbow while pitching in a neighborhood game against a Blue Springs team. The fracture was set at a Blue Springs doctor's shop and he is recovering but not certain to play soon.

Diiler residents win saloon license remonstrance case

Citizens praised for perseverance as spring election questioned license. Majority favored no license, remonstrators challenged the board’s grant in court. Judge Kelligar of the district court ruled in favor of the remonstrators, a signal victory for orderly opposition.

Miller Behrands wed in large Lutheran ceremony

George Miller and Clara Behrends were married Wednesday morning at the Lutheran church. The couple, both from local farming families, will reside with the groom’s parents. A reception at the bride’s home followed with about two hundred guests, dinner, dancing, and contests.

Counterfeit Bill Prompts Lawyer Letter Exchange

In Fairbury lawyer L. E. Blauser pursued an outstanding Kansas debt. He returned a forged two dollar bill to the borrower with a sharp note asking for a genuine payment. Months later the debtor apologized for the delay and sent another counterfeit bill, claiming previous ones were just as good.

County approves wagon road through Clark farm area

County commissioners last week granted a right of way for a wagon road through Clark's farm west of town. Clark asked 350 damages, the board awarded 250, and Lincoln Land Co. claim was rejected. A subscription quickly raised the 100 difference plus 20 for the Lincoln claim, totaling 120, with Clark contributing 25 and others adding funds. The road will serve residents west of Diller, easing access for the western townside.
