Robert Patton Enters The Navy

Robert Patton 14, son of Mr and Mrs Roy Patton, left for Omaha and Great Lakes naval training station after applying to join the Navy. He passed a perfect physical and contemplates aviation service. He is the fifth Diller boy to serve in the Navy alongside Will Bowers Keith Johnson Harold Sattheffl and Roe Sparks.

Diller High Splits With Hollenberg In Season Opener

Diller High School opened its season at Holenberg last Friday. The boys defeated Hollenberg 22 to 6 while the girls lost. Change In Train Service Affects Rock Island Fast Trains

Rock Island replaces No 6 and No 5 with two unnumbered extra trains. The new set includes baggage, combination baggage and mail, coach, through freight and caboose cars. No 5 now reaches Fairbury at 4 20 p m and No 6 at 11 10 p m.

At a recent meeting the Village Council enacted a 25 mph limit for Diller's main street to curb speeding. The note mentions a Broken Arrow Furnace coal shipment and urges residents to prepare winter supplies, with contact for C. L. Geer Lumber and Coal.

Diller's team defeated Wilber 4-1 as B George and Diller pitched for the visitors allowing three hits and 17 strikeouts. Smith started for Wilber, giving up eight hits with several strikeouts. J H Madden born August 2 1864 in Donahue Iowa son of Henry and Lucy Madden lived on farms in Iowa Nebraska and finally Dix Nebraska where he died September 8 at age 75 after a cancer fight. Funeral services were led by Rev Pebler at Wageoner’s with many relatives in attendance.
