Hays Family Reunion Enjoys Riverside Park Gathering

The Hays family reunion at Riverside Park Beatrice drew many members from Beatrice Blue Springs Diller Lincoln Omaha Denver and other areas. Attendees included Mr and Mrs Herman Albers Mr and Mrs Kenneth Albers Ed Bond Mary Low Willis Clark and others. Several members planned trips with the Lowells returning from Colorado and a three week Oregon voyage for Jacob and family.

Freddie Regnier Injured in Hayrack Accident

Freddie Regnier son of Mr and Mrs George Regnier living southwest of Diler was injured Monday when he slipped from a moving hayrack. While two hayracks were pulled Freddie fell from the first and the wheels of the second passed over his legs above the knee. No bones broken but extensive muscle and flesh damage. he is resting at home.

Diller Domination Seals 140 Run Win Over Hollenberg

Diller crushed Hollenberg 140 to 0 in a Sunday baseball game at Diller. From the opening pitch Diller hit and scored at will, delivering a commanding victory for the locals.

Picnic and basket drive to be held at Fairbury park

The B. B. Kensington annual picnic and basket drive is set for Sunday at Fairbury City Park. All past and present members and families are welcome. A rural letter carriers convention card signing and several visiting relatives are noted among attendees.

Barn on Orville Belding Farm Burns Near Diller

A barn on the Orville Belding farm four miles north and east of Diller burned Wednesday night. The cause is undetermined. John Folkers reported the incident at 1 25 a.m. The fire department arrived but the barn had too much of a start and heavy wind prevented saving it.

Beatrice Class of 1925 Holds Reunion at Chautauqua Park

Twenty three years after graduation the Diller High School class of 19 students gathered at Chautauqua Park Beatrice for a reunion. Attending from the class of 1922 were Archie Trout and wife from Los Angeles Lincoln couples Steffensmeyer Bond Albers Schaaie Keith Hays and spouses. Absent members included Leslie Stull Glen Shanks Mrs Ernest Novotny Alfred Mayborn Ethel Warthen Robert Diller Robert Bell Martha Folkers Mrs Floyd Hughes Wilbur Green and Melvit Wright.

Albert Kisling Elected Shipments Director for Church

The Council of St. Paul's Lutheran Church met last Monday evening and elected Albert Kisling as Stewardship Director for one year. The meeting covered church growth and the work's future, then a poem from Rev H H Pyche was read. Rev Pyche, former Diller Congregational minister now in West Point, invites a visit and shares a reflective poem.

Diller Public Schools Set to Open Tuesday

The Diller Public Schools will open Tuesday with registration Friday and Saturday. The building is cleaned and the kitchen remodeled. Teachers are expected to arrive this weekend. Mrs. LaGoorge of Kansas City visited this week at Mrs. Charlie Hilder’s home.

Legion Auxiliary Meeting Letters New Officers at Legion Hall

Legion Auxiliary held its regular meeting at the Legion building. The group listened to the installation of new officers led by District Commander Mr. Wm. Sandman and received a report on the State Convention in Grand Island. Committees were appointed for concessions and a dance at Diller Picnic. members noted enough funds remaining to pay the building debt and adjourned to a social hour with refreshments.

Steffen Receives $100 Estate Scholarship at Nebraska

Richard Steffen was awarded a $100 estate scholarship for the 1948-49 term in the College of Agriculture at the University of Nebraska. The merit-based award supports scholastic ability. Steffen attends the 7th annual Livestock Marketing School from August 29 to September 2, part of a cooperative program between the Omaha Livestock Exchange Union Stock Yards Co and the University of Nebraska.

Dorothy Scheele, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Scheele, is engaged to Loren L. Bentley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Bentley of Diagonal, Iowa. Wedding date not set. Also notes Red Cross official praising donated household goods aiding George Rohr family after a August 6 fire. Community visits and Sunday guests listed. Heat Wave Persists With Dry Conditions Across Week

The week saw daytime highs in the 90s and nighttime lows around 70s with no rainfall. The prolonged heat has stressed corn crops. Wednesday night brought an electrical storm in Diller with strong winds.
