Diller residents attend Beatrice carnival and Beatrice Institute visits. new business moves strengthened by Racket store relocation to Miller’s building. Local notices include farm warnings, school improvements, and mayoral reading of public notices. Prominent names include the Habicht family, P B Miller, and Misses Diller, Ballard, and Zook among many others in community updates.
J W Fonta’s 160 acre property sold last Saturday. J A Price sold the Fonta farm to G C Blauser at 90 dollars per acre. An artesian well was bored north of Fairbury. water rises two feet above ground at eighty feet depth. The plan for selecting seats for the next entertainment course is deferred due to busy week. The RACKET moves to a new building two doors south of the old stand and welcomes callers with new goods and competitive prices.
Beatrice Express notes a fall stock sale to make room for new goods. Buggies wagons and cream separators offered at greatly reduced prices, with stock to clear by September. Second hand buggies also on bargain list. Prof George Williamson and wife visiting Beatrice residents, heading to Tekamah Neb for school duties this year. Williamson family have ties to Michigan and Gage county.
The Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad announces that any employee found smoking will be dismissed. They state the cigarette fiend cannot perform duties as satisfactorily as non smokers, a stance seen as poor encouragement for workers.
Miss L C Ballard announces an entire new fall and winter millinery line opening tomorrow. Ladies are invited to call. Mrs Lilly Thompson and daughter Mrs Mabel McCall visit J C McCray and family from Kanorado Kansas.
A reminiscence contrasts grandfather’s corn hoe and father’s two row cultivator with modern banking. It questions adoption of bank accounts and checks, urging readers to consider shifting from old money methods to contemporary finance for security and profit.
In a Saturday conversation near Diller a German farmer Mr. Weimers, who lives about 20 miles west of Diller, says this year’s corn should be his best yet. He never sells corn but feeds it to his cattle and markets $1000 to $1300 worth of cattle each year.
The youth Billy Tinetman rode a motorcycle on the sidewalk violating village rules. A small dog belonging to Arthur Treick darted onto the walk, was struck by the bike, and Billy was thrown about twenty feet into the street. He wonders what would have happened if the dog were larger.
Agent Watson announces round trip Burlington tickets to the Lincoln State Fair September 4 to 6 with admission and shuttle service for 3.05 or 2.45 without admission, half price for children. Final sale September 12. Special train from Superior September 6 leaves Diller 7:05 a m arrives Lincoln 10:15 a m returns Lincoln 6:40 p m.
Bible school at 10 a.m. preaching at 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. Christian Endeavor at 7 p.m. led by Pastor A. L. Depgen. Presbyterian services both morning and evening next Sunday September 4 with Sunday School and Christian Endeavor at usual hours led by Rev. Wa. Bors.
The notice lists church services for next Monday including Sunday school at the usual hour and sermons at 11 am and 8 pm. Epworth League gathers at 7 pm and members are urged to return letters sent out months ago. McClure, Pastor.
