Mr and Mrs Guy Casell attended Silas Diller s funeral in Steele City. Walter Leaper J C Stucker and Mike Riddle received new Ford cars this week through F W Lowe at Steele City.

Mrs John Nickerson travels to Arkon Colorado after a telegram announces her daughter Mrs Joy Highland is seriously ill. The move reflects concern for a family member amid distant news from the frontier town.
Hugh Fry left Monday for his home near North Platte Nebraska traveling via Rockford to visit relatives along the way.
Mr and Mrs O W Fischer and family from Elmwood Nebraska visited relatives in Diller last week. They were accompanied home Sunday morning by Jake and Reka Loettman. The trip was made in Mr Loettman s Ford.
The four year old child of Mr and Mrs Lawrence Logan was rushed to a Fairbury hospital Tuesday evening after a car backing from a garage ran over him. He was cut but not thought seriously injured.
Brief addresses were delivered at the Diller school entertainments session. Speakers from local groups offered remarks as part of the program, highlighting community efforts and school activities.

Ernest Sasse of three miles west of Diller reports a Sunday night theft of the larger portion of a porker butchered Saturday evening. Contractors prepare materials for a large cement arch west of the slaughter house to replace two old bridges south of town near the section line.
Reports from farmers on the creek bottom claim Pearly Place’s six acre field yielded 40 bushels per acre, Ira Place’s plot 85 bushels per acre, and Jess Brandt’s patch 28 bushels per acre, while some fields show as little as ten bushels per acre.
A Diller branch Red Cross delegation led by Mrs Ora Mayborn and others attended a Fairbury meeting on Wednesday to learn about sewing and other activities. The group plans further work and hopes the visit spurs more local Red Cross efforts.

Mrs H S Armsatead of Tecumseh visited friends in Diller and nearby to tend interests in the farm three miles northeast of Diller that her husband owned when he died.

The Embroidery Club met with Mrs. E. L. Lpock on Wednesday afternoon with about a dozen members. They spent time on embroidery crochet and knitting for soldiers. The group limited refreshments to two courses due to the war, and Mrs. Frank Pearce attended as guest of honor.
The funeral for Joseph Silas Diller was held Sunday afternoon at the Presbyterian church with Rev. Larkins officiating. Diller, born August 25 1875 in Plainsfield Pennsylvania, died October 18 1917 in Lincoln Nebraska at age 42. He came to Diller Nebraska in 1879 and is survived by Sam Diller of Cheyenne Wyoming and sisters Mrs J O Waggoner of Meridian Idaho and Mrs Elmer James of Steele City Nebraska. Interment followed at Prairie Home cemetery.
Mr Maw and family along with Mrs Miller Mrs Reinhardt and others traveled by car to Camp Funston Kansas last Sunday. They toured the camp visited Scott A Miller and Dale Reinhardt now sergeant in ambulance company with barracks 1327 and spoke of the soldiers spirit and hope to meet the Kaiser soon.
J L Lamb received word of his brother in law B Wetzel of Pear Illinois death. Ern est Habicht returned from Omaha after visiting his wife in hospital where she had an operation. she is recovering nicely.
The Fairbury News notes a shift in delinquent tax reporting from extensive multi page coverage to a small corner under a patent medicine ad. The editorial observes the nation appears fairly prosperous and urges readers to read the current signs in daily life.
The Diller Red Cross met at Mrs. Mary Miller’s home with twelve members and one visitor. The secretary announced 194 members paying a dollar fifty each, funds supporting the Jefferson Co Chapter. Mrs. Reinhardt led knitting efforts with nine sets delivered to sailors, while seventeen women knit socks and eighteen sweaters for local boys. Twenty eight comfort kits cost two dollars each, sold at cost by local merchants. A four woman committee was formed to solicit funds for the local relief effort, and next week sewing will begin if funds allow.
Pawnee county farmer Arnold Martin returned from the international soil products exposition in Peoria with top honors. He earned Nebraska’s grand sweepstakes prize for first place in county, state and agricultural products, all grown on his own farm.
Rev Larkins will preach next Sunday morning and evening with full attendance urged at the morning service where the proposal to extend Mr Larkin a pastorate will be decided. Other services as usual.
The church urges nationwide support with a call to duty and a church led canvass to push the New Financial Plan. Envelopes for weekly contributions will be distributed as the board of stewards completes the outreach. The minister’s Endowment Fund sermon series Life’s Choices continues in Methodist pulpits.
