The ladies of Harbine and the community host a quilt show at the Harbine school house on Saturday afternoon with a 3 o clock program and a second at 8 o clock. Mrs Carl Jacobs leads the program and prizes will be awarded for quilts. An antique and photograph display will be arranged in another room managed by Mrs Glenn Wilson and Mrs Claude Nider.
Mr and Mrs Francis Clark visited Marysville Kansas last week to see Ida Clark their mother aging and traveling back to Fairbury from Akron and Columbus Ohio where she stayed four weeks with sisters. Ida then went to Columbus Ohio to visit another sister and plans a Florida winter trip starting in November with her sister.
The plan to graveL the road north from Diller with WPA labor likely fails as pit gravel from south of Fairbury did not pass tests. Road officials were told last week that the gravel supply will be reevaluated, hoping a suitable pit-run gravel could be found for the graded road with county trucks.
Mr and Mrs Clarence Hiatt attended a joint American Legion and Auxiliary meeting in Friend on Monday October 21 where Mrs Hiatt installed officers and spoke on The Future of the American Legion Auxiliary. They also attended the Fillmore county convention at Milligan last week.
Mrs Flora Waggoner Davis and her daughter from Chicago visited her husband’s relatives in Filley Nebr and were pleasant callers at this office on Thursday afternoon accompanied by her mother in law Mrs Davis of Filley.
The Ite Girl show by the Model Players played Saturday night to a larger crowd than the prior week. Attendees praised the entertainment quality of the group.

A farmer east of town reports filling a trench silo measuring 100 feet long 10 feet wide and 6 feet deep. He estimates it will hold over 100 tons based on a conversion of 50 cubic feet per ton, reflecting widespread use of trench silos this year.
Fifty musicians attended a Monday evening band rehearsal from 7 to 10. Both Junior and Senior groups assigned numbers for practice to be used at the upcoming band entertainment.
Wilbur Green arrived home Sunday noon from Casper Wyoming where he had gone to work. It is said he got the mumpe and they sent him home. All of the infants are laid up with the ailment now.
Beatrice's 12 churches observed a loyalty month in Sabbath schools with last Sunday attendance reported near 1965 or about 20 percent of the city's population. The Congregational record shows 107 attendees and the Methodist 68, totaling 175 or roughly 44 percent of the 408 residents.
Henry Bernard and Eddie Behrends along with Arnold Henrich and La Forest Fasnacht returned Saturday evening from Marsland Nebraska where they helped pick up potatoes. They visited Har rison Nebraska with Mr and Mrs Schmelle at the Schmelles home and traveled to Hot Springs South Dakota to visit Mattie Henric. They also saw the Black Hills and spent a night with Clarence Schmuelle of Danabrog before returning home without car trouble.
The Ladies Aid hosts a Halloween social at the Methodist church on Wednesday October 30. A buffet supper runs 6 to 8 pm with pay as you eat pricing. After supper a program in the main auditorium precedes basement games for all guests.
A Plattsmouth Nebraska report says the board of education will sponsor weekend dances for high school students in the gymnasium during winter. A vote of parents favored the plan and a committee was chosen to run the dances.
Rolf Beckman works this week at Steele City assisting Mr and Mrs Guy Cassell to prepare their newly purchased Fay Clark property across from the church. New floors cabinet work wallpaper and paint are among the improvements for occupancy.

George Sasse found a complete six prong elk skull in his father’s pasture nine miles southwest of Diller while digging after sighting a horn tip. The horns measure 51 inches side to side 48 inches tip to tip and were shown at the Welch Moore hardware store in Fairbury.
Mr and Mrs Walter Greenwood of Brush Colorado made early Sunday calls on relatives in Diller before heading to Lincoln. They visited Geer Bros filling station Virgil Geer and Orlo Geer then Roy Geer’s home before moving on Roy Geer and the Greenwoods are brothers in law.
A cold front dropped temperatures to 24 degrees at night and 28 degrees Wednesday morning at the local station. Cheyenne reported eight degrees with light snow flurries seen in the northwest area. Weather observers noted the chilly fall conditions across nearby points.
Ladimar and Elsie Lucas named defendants in a mortgage foreclosure action filed in Beatrice district court by Federal Farm Mortgage Corporation. Property is a quarter section near Virginia Nebraska, inherited by Ledger Lucas from his father. Plaintiff seeks 2890.04 in principal and interest.
A party of six hunters drove to Genoa Nebraska for a Sunday shoot. They faced rain and wet weeds as they bagged one pheasant apiece. The group included Everett Clark Ole Anderson Quinter Fry Harvey Garrels Christ Malchow Robert Fry and a man named James.

Miss Evelyn Sixel daughter of Mr and Mrs Herman Sixel of Harbine and Herm Kisling son of Mr and Mrs Geo Kisling Sr of Plymouth were married at Hope Reformed Church Harbine on Sunday October 20 Rev P S Kohler conducted the ceremony with nuptial music by Mrs Carl Jacobs and organ by Mrs P S Kohler The bridal party wore pink and white gowns and the reception for both families followed at the Sixel home with about one hundred guests The couple will reside on a farm southwest of Plymouth

John H. Schlueter 81 of Watertown Wisconsin died after a long career as a cigarmaker. He reportedly smoked about 438000 cigars in his life valued at $50000. He smoked 20 to 24 cigars daily and set aside 60000 for future use.
Seven sons in seventh grade are sons of seven different city doctors in Kearney Nebraska. Fathers named include O D Johnson C B Edwards H C Hansen F Jester R S Johnson W E Rose and A A Munn. The boys are all seventh graders.
