Mr and Mrs Wayne Thompson of Lincoln and Mr and Mrs Chester Sparks attended Lisnday dinner at the home of the Thompsons Mr and Mrs S J Thompson.
The funeral for 35 year old Vauga Bone, formerly connected with the lumber yard at Elis, was held Wednesday of last week at Fairbury. He died in Macon Missouri where he had recently moved.
Cornbelt Lumber Co. advertises ready coal and fair prices. C.L. Geer manages Mer. on phone 153:02.
Mr and Mrs C Davis and son Dale from Chicago visit relatives in Diller Filley and Lincoln. Mr Davis works as a government immigration inspector in Chicago during the two week vacation with Mrs Waggoner and her family.
Mrs Price widow of P W Price a former Diller businessman and ex Citizens State Bank cashier and her son Arthur Price along with son in law and daughter Mr and Mrs McPhillamy visited Beatrice and Fairbury relatives and left by car for Kansas City after a brief Sunday call on old Diller friends.
Floyd Hughes sustained a painful facial injury when a piece of steel struck his right eye while working on machinery near Endicott. The injury is reported as improving nicely.
The Fairbury Journal reports a series of chicken thefts around Fairbury. Sheriff Helvey investigates five robberies tied to farms including Ernest Soncreetss and Schoenrock, with over 500 chickens stolen in total. Police seek links and apprehension of thieves.
Sunday school Rally Day to be held at the M E church next Sunday. The week has been warm with no frost yet and a Sunday afternoon public sale is planned by Mrs Herman Peters at 2 oclock, featuring butchering tools and slaughter house grounds. Jefferson county reports 3167 44 dollars from September gas tax apportionment. Earl Weigel underwent appendicitis surgery at Odell hospital Tuesday night. Mr Loock remains ill and in the same condition.
A J Hill was left off the list of those attending the Sunday school picnic at Fairbury. He did attend and provided the conveyance for several others to join the event.
Mr E L Loock is believed to have suffered a second paralytic stroke last week and has been bedbound since. The family carries the community’s best wishes for his recovery and well being.
Postmaster Vernon D. Hill announces in the Diller lobby that starting next Monday Oct 12 the post office will close at 6 30 p m rather than 7 p m The change reflects the earlier evening train and shorter daylight hours in winter.
The Diller Woman's Club opened its year Wednesday Sept 30 honoring local teachers on the eve of Diller school's fifteenth anniversary a golden jubilee staged by social and music committees. President H Frisbie welcomed guests Supt Schindler spoke then a program featured community singing Miss Hanson and Miss Green in School Days a Deestrick Skule skit a history of Diller by Mrs S A Miller and a pioneer talk by Wm Mudge followed by refreshments and social hour Note County Convention set for Oct 14 at Fairbury Methodist Church with a covered dish luncheon at noon.
Mr and Mrs Buswell of Fairbury drove to Diller on Sunday to visit Mrs Emma Fry at her home.
Mrs. Wilbur-Hiatt and her children Lois and Dickie of Scandia Kansas visited Saturday and Sunday at the home of Mrs. S M Hughes, the Hiatt's mother.
Mrs Emma Fitting the wife of Rev Fitting and two of her children left Monday for their home in New Cambria Kansas after visiting at the homes of her sisters Mrs H Patton and Mrs Dora Wohl farth in the area.
The Diller post office will offer a commemorative stamp and stamped envelope around January 2 to mark the two hundredth birthday of George Wasninges. The stamp features a Peale portrait by Charles Wilson Peale.
A Kensington gathering at Mrs. A A Eick’s home on Friday October 2 brought together 24 Keystone class members and three guests including Mrs. J F McGivern of Cheyenne Wye and others. Mary and Eula enjoyed the game while Mrs. R W Green led the business meeting. The entertainment committee presented romance and prizes were awarded to Mrs Cal Waggoner. Refreshments were served by the hostess and assistants with autumn theme. The November Kensington meeting will be at Mrs W E Anderson's home and members are asked to bring a conundrum.
The Odell Oracle notes a string of robberies around Odell on Saturday night. F A Sorick loses stock at his farm near the Farmers Union cream station. about fifty pounds of chickens were stolen from his pen after a truck earlier hauled birds to packers. A break in at I S Basim’s farm yielded clothing valued at about 75 dollars. Merle Hostettler’s home near Lanham corner was pilfered of roughly a dozen items. Additional targets include H G Schmidt’s home with furniture and bedding taken. Arthur Spitsnogle reports about 1350 chickens stolen. Residents fear more thefts and warn trouble if the trend continues.
