Under the new revenue law personal tax for 1903 becomes delinquent December 1, 1903 and must be paid by that time to save costs. R Merrell treasurer notes merchants of Diller enjoy good trade. One merchant shipped goods to Missouri yesterday and another sold Beatrice a single article for 50 cents less than home. Moral: come to Diller to trade.
A gang of railroad graders arrived last Saturday and camped west of town to cut a new channel for Indian creek in John Henrichs pasture to preserve the road bed. The cut is about five hundred feet long and several feet deep and will take until New Year’s to complete.
An advertisement offers free wind and stem set watches to boys of Ne- Srohn with no payment required. The item is presented as a no cost incentive, encouraging readers to obtain a timekeeping device without spending money.

The ad claims Dr ing s New Life Pills cure dyspepsia jaundice fever and constipation for 25 cents at Sutton s drug store. A railroad accident killed engineer Wm Ryan on the Burlington line last week when his head was struck by a mail crane. son of Ed Ryan he served as engine inspector. His funeral was held Sunday at Wymore.
Odell Ware writes from 1883 to present praising improvements from straw sheds to palatial homes along mail route No 3. John Templeton of Superior and his daughter and sister-in-law traveled through Diller to Ohio where he planned to reside, then killed himself in Chillicothe by stepping in front of a freight train due to financial setbacks. He was related to the Templetons of Odell and formerly involved in lumber and coal businesses.
D B Gril files contest in county court challenging the election of William Bonawits as county assessor after an official count showing a five vote majority. Special to the State Journal from Fairbury Nebraska dated November 24.

A separate shop scene shows a clerk and customer discussing pencil erasers and wooden graphite cylinders as substitutes for lead pencils.
A blaze at the Ellsworth livery barn one half block east of the square in Fairbury last Friday night cremated thirteen of about forty head of horses, burned buggies and harnesses, and spread to a dwelling and lumber yard. The fire started from a defective flue with a loss of 3100 dollars and insurance of 1800 dollars.

Dr C T Gritzka of Diller and Miss Eva Kerr were married Wednesday November 25 at the Presbyterian manse in Omaha with Rev Dr Jenks officiating. Miss Kerr, a trained nurse, has recent private nursing work and once led Springfield Hospital. The couple will return to Diller after a brief bridal trip, likely tonight on the B and M train.
