The War Department requests that Christmas greeting cards for soldiers overseas be sent in sealed envelopes and prepaid at first class rate. Cards should be mailed immediately to ensure delivery to remote A P O s by December 25 per the Army Postal Service.
Mr. and Mrs. Ovid Carpenter escaped unhurt except for a slight neck sprain for Mrs. Carpenter after a northbound vehicle failed to stop at a highway intersection and collided with their car near the Ellis underpass on Highway 3 on Friday night. Insurance covered the loss.
Nebraska Motor Vehicle Division issues a renewal bulletin for operators. Applications may be renewed by mail unless the original license is overdue by more than nine days. If the license is over ninety days past due the applicant must appear before a Patrolman Examiner for the required examination.

Wunder has been named acting county attorney at Fairbury, taking office on Wednesday, November 10. He replaces Frank M. Rain, who left to join the U S Navy as a lieutenant. Wunder will serve until Rain returns or the term ends.
The case State v Clem Howarter is scheduled for jury trial at Fairbury, with proceedings set to commence on November 17. The jury has been selected to hear the matter as part of the upcoming trial calendar.
Pvt Joy Renz writes from Camp Gruber Oklahoma about frequent rain and cold weather. He describes long work days, infantry training, and occasional time off for sleep and recreation at the PX. He notes about 25 000 soldiers stationed there and asks for letters to his APO address.
Mr and Mrs Howard Peters of Fairbury and Mr and Mrs Lawrence Madden and family were Sunday dinner guests of Mr and Mrs Will Amos Peters has been accepted for army service and will leave for training within a few days. Mrs Peters plans to continue operation of their Fairbury grocery and meat store.
Jefferson county attorney Frank M. Rain, recently commissioned naval lieutenant, will report for training November 15 at the University of Arizona Tucson. He plans to visit his mother Mrs Madge Merrill Rain in St. Louis before reporting.
Herb Barber’s Alfalfa train rolled through Diller this noon towing three trailer loads of orange produce pulled by a tractor. It moved north on Main Street drawing curious residents and reactions from locals.

The American Legion and auxiliary observe Armistice Day with taps and a 6:30 PM pot luck dinner at the Legion hall. J. Denney will speak, with several Dillerites planning to attend the celebration.
The hot lunch project at Diller schools is moving along nicely according to Supt. Carl Ludington. An average of 96 meals were served daily in October at a price of 10 cents each. Meals are prepared and served by Mrs. Lee Calkine Mrs. Floyd Maw and Miss Emma Ginthar with students providing their own service.
Harold Logan sold three yearling bulls at the Nebraska Breeders' sale in Columbus on November 4 for a total of 960 dollars. He recently sold 14 heifers to Springfield Ohio and six to Cayucos California, expanding his livestock sales footprint.

Survived by five children and eight grandchildren. Her husband John F Brei died August 9 1931.

Frederick Froehrick was sentenced by Judge Bilis in district court at Fairbury on Tuesday to three months in county jail for joyriding a car he took in Jansen weeks earlier from Herman Weise.

Mr and Mrs Robert Patton and baby Patty Jane of New York City arrived by train Tuesday to spend a few days with Roy Patton and other local relatives before leaving Friday evening Robert is a first class signalman with the Atlantic fleet.
Cpl. and Mrs. George Armstrong of Camp Wallace Texas enjoy a two week furlough visiting at the homes of their parents in Odell and Wymore. Armstrong formerly coached at the Dilier school.
Allen Max Meyer 22 son of Mrs W G Walker formerly of Diller now Beatrice earned an ensign commission in the U S Navy after graduating from the naval training school for midshipmen at Northwestern University Chicago He will serve as a deck officer with the fleet.
WSCS of the Methodist church will meet next Thursday November 18. Members are asked to come prepared to sew or quilt.
Mrs Howard Mawn also known as Phyllis Reaz recently returned from Longview Washington and is visiting her parents Mr and Mrs Paul Reoz in Beatrice.
