Cal Waggoner Defending Champion Named for Nebraska Trap

Jimmy Robinson, sports editor of Minneapolis, reports Cal Waggoner of Diiler as defending champion for the Nebraska state trap shooting championships to be staged at Hastings June 6 7 and 8. Waggoner has won the Nebraska title several times and broke 197 of 200 to win last year.

Whisker Club Plans Beatrice Booster Visit

A Beatrice Be Whisker Club caravan with a brass band and about 100 members stops on Main Street next Tuesday afternoon around 2 30 to promote the Homesteader Celebration in Beatrice scheduled for June 11 and 12 led by Mike Cruise the old fiddler.

Tea Party A Rural-Urban Social at City Hall

A rural urban Tea will be held at the Ditler city hall on Friday evening June 13. The event is sponsored by the Tripple A Auxiliaries of Newton Pleasant precincts in Jefferson county and Elm Glenwood Townships in Gage county. County committeemen and their wives are invited.

Real live two foot bull snake found in dining room

Mrs Henry Weaver residing across from Fred Clark's home found a real live two foot bull snake in her dining room on Monday while cleaning. The reptile had apparently crawled through an open door.

About forty relatives gathered at George Fisher’s home in Diller to celebrate his 90th birthday with a dinner prepared by Mary Green, his housekeeper, last Sunday.

Memorial Day services in Diller on Decoration Day May 30 at 2 p m in the opera house feature a band concert led by Mrs Steffen with invocation by Rev L J Wolff a Memorial Day recitation by Verne Hubka a vocal duet by Eleanor Weigel and Julia Diller an address by Rev Robert D Hall a vocal solo by Richard Miller and benediction by Rev W H Clark Afterward the committee will go to Prairie Home cemetery to supervise grave decorations by children.

Will Bowers Promoted To Chief Fire Control

Will Bowers has passed the Naval electric engineering exam and is promoted to Chief Fire Control on the destroyer Anderson. Effective June 16, he serves in active appointment, directing the ship’s electric equipment and gun firing. The Anderson sails from San Diego to Honolulu, with an estimated two years’ absence. he plans to buy about 300 in new uniforms.

Librarian Appointment Declined. Miss Beckwith Moves to Iowa

Miss Mary Beckwith who recently received the NYA appointment as librarian at Diller will not accept the post. She plans to move to Iowa and remains at Aunt Mary Cassell's Steele City home during Mr Cassell's illness while performing library work at Diller temporarily.

C F Stark Dies at 84 in Fairbury Funeral Planned

Funeral services were held Monday in Fairbury for C E Stark 84 a well known Jefferson county resident who came to the area in 1880 served as Gladstone's first postmaster and was a longtime county commissioner. He worked in the insurance business with his son in recent years and is survived by three sons and one daughter.

County Agent at Fairbury reports daily activities for Jefferson county 4 H Club members during the 26th annual Club week at the College of Agriculture Lincoln from June 1 to 6. The final day will be in Omaha as guests of the South Omaha live stock industries and the Omaha Chamber of Commerce.

Richardson Sues For Damages Over Beatrice Crash

Orville Richardson sues Mrs. Jensena Hastings cafe operator of Fairbury for 5000 damages in Beatrice district court. He alleges Hastings crossed onto the wrong side of highway 3 early May 1 causing a collision that broke his jaw and injured him while riding in a state highway department truck with Clarence Rudder. He cannot work for eight weeks.

Farewell For Rev Kohler At Hope Reformed Church

Hope Reformed Church members host a farewell reception for Rev P S Kohler and Mrs Kohler on Sunday afternoon June 1 at 2 30 at the church. Mrs Clarence Engleman leads a program followed by ice cream and cake. The Kohlers plan to move to Lincoln the following week.

Stores Close Tomorrow in Diller Townwide Notice

The three general stores in Diller will close at noon tomorrow and remain closed for the rest of the day. Memorial services are set for 2 p.m. in the opera house followed by a Lutheran social at the hall in the evening. Farmer's Store Hole's Store Hughes' Store are among those affected.

May 24 at St. Pauls Ev Lutheran church in Diller saw Elda V Krebs daughter of Emil and Mrs Krebs marry Elmer B Sasse son of Albert and Mrs Sasse with Rev L J Wolff officiating. Best man Lester Ellison and bridesmaid Hope Benz attended. The couple, former Diller High School sweethearts class of 1937, will reside near Fairbury where the groom works in the county AAA office and the bride taught rural schools. They received charivaris and good wishes as they began housekeeping in a government farm dwelling south of Fairbury.
