Stumps 25c a load and local notes from Diller area

Leslie Nickeson made a business trip to Falls City Wednesday. A 9% pound girl was born to Mr and Mrs James Novotny southwest of Diller last Sunday May 24. There will be no rural mail delivery Saturday May 30 Decoration day and legal holiday for carriers. Swain Bros delivered 1728 bushels of old wheat to Diller market at 80c per bushel. W S Diller and Edwin Reinhart left Monday for Burt county to sell groceries for an Omaha house. Dennis Logan Al and Joe Steffen graded the mile of road near the Logan place last week. A class of 52 will graduate from Fairbury High School this evening.

Neuman receives Buffalo Pitts separator to thresh wheat

Herman Neuman took delivery of a Buffalo Pitts separator on Tuesday to aid threshing a large wheat crop. In nearby farming news, Herbert Barber and Earl Weaver chased two young coyotes from Weaver’s wheat field a mile west of Diller on Monday and plan to keep them as pets.

Methodist Ladies Kensington Meeting at Mrs Carrico's Home

The Methodist ladies Kensington will meet at the home of Mrs. Carrico on Thursday afternoon June 4. An invitation is extended to all the ladies to attend. Frank Sedlaeck on the old Jos Novotny farm east of Diller is recovering from blood poisoning in his right hand caused by a finger injury caught in gas engine gears. The federal court ruled against Union Pacific in a minority stockholders case against St Joseph and Grand Island railroad alleging affairs were manipulated for UP benefit.

Mrs Witty and Eva Visit Friends Across States

Mrs. Sarah Witty and daughter Eva traveled from Gilead to visit Diller friends. Eva attends summer school at Peru after her school's closure. Mrs. Witty plans part of the summer with her son Fred and family at Vliets Kansas, then visits friends in Chicago.

Busy Farmers Pressed by Hay Alfalfa Harvest and Plowing

With alfalfa hay making under way corn plowing and a large crop of wheat and oats coming on farmers anticipate a busy period ahead as they work to prepare fields and gather harvests in the coming weeks.

Decoration Day Observed by G A R and W R C in Diller

Saturday May 380th Decoration Day rites scheduled at Prairie Home cemetery begin at 9 30 a m with services by the G A R and W R C and graveside ceremonies near the Indian Creek bridge for marines. Commencement exercises at the opera house featured a decorated stage, senior procession, and a speech by Dr H B Allen on education and citizenship.

Diller Alumni Banquet Honor Class of 1914

The Diller high school alumni held its third annual banquet for the graduating class in the M E church basement. Fifty plates were served as the ladies of the Methodist church assisted. Prof. C Westcott and C L Bleaser were among speakers with a phonograph musical program. Harrison Line heads the alumni association with Averil Fouts as secretary and treasurer.
