A caller requests the person possessing a fence stretcher return it. The Home Guards are ordered to assemble at city hall at 10 30 Sunday morning and march to the Methodist church for memorial services.
Emil Baseler a soldier from Camp Funston visited with his cousin Mrs Onka Lottman and family then returned to Camp Funston Sunday evening.
W. F. Steffen of Fresco California departed after a monthlong visit with his brother Henry Steffen and other relatives. He planned to tour Iowa South Dakota and Wisconsin to see remaining kin.
County Commissioner Homer Yeakle announces in the Record his bid for the county clerk's office subject to the will of Democratic voters at the August primary. He seeks the nomination in the upcoming election.
The nine year old son of Mr and Mrs Jofan Fanders was struck on the head by a windmill blade blown down in a recent storm. He suffered two deep gashes to the bone and was treated by a local physician after being brought to town.
Earl Pearce of Beatrice, son of Mr and Mrs Frank T Pearce and son in law of Mr and Mrs W A Cherry, was operated on Tuesday in a Beatrice hospital for appendicitis and at last reports was doing as well as could be expected. Mrs Pearce and Mrs Cherry returned from Beatrice Wednesday evening.
Mr Burkett of Odell visited with his daughter Mrs Lightner over Monday night. A finder should call Mrs John McKie at Jansen to arrange pony recovery.
Mrs. Mary Miller attended the funeral Saturday at Fairbury for her friend Mrs. J. L. Kennedy who lived about three miles north of the town.
Heavy rainfall Monday night brought about 2.34 inches of water, easing drought symptoms. Wheat and oats suffered but are expected to salvage a fair crop with upcoming seasonable weather.

Mrs John Gretzinger was called to Reynolds Tuesday evening by the serious illness of her son-in law Harry Gregory from Quincy. She returned yesterday and reports Mr Gregory better since having his tonsils removed.
John G. Wiese of Meadow Grove Nebraska, a subscription caller, came Saturday with his father an early county settler. They will stay for a visit with the family of F. C. Achtemeier and other old friends in the Harbine area.
The Home Guards G A R and W Rk C will hold Decoration Day services on the 30th at Prairie Home Cemetery. A music program and addresses are planned with floral tributes. They meet at the city hall at 1 30 and march to the cemetery, then return to the opera house for further services.
A surprise party was held Tuesday night May 21 at Otis Babb’s home for Herbert Le Poidevin who faces call to Camp Dodge Iowa on May 28. Guests enjoyed games and music with ice cream and cake served late. Attendees wished him joy and a safe return.
Tom Watson receives Sterling station assignment after leaving Diller. Irene Blauser noted. Rev. H. W. Wagner attended a Beatrice ministerial meeting. Dr. J. S. Taylor moves to Camp Funston to serve in the war effort. Adeline V. Miller re elected to teach English in San Bernardino California with higher pay. Supt. Rhue Green’s Utica school closes as he visits home before wartime radio service enlistment. Green will report to Omaha then Great Lakes and Harvard for military training.
A friend of Milo Foster, a former Diller boy now with Company C, 168th Infantry, American Expeditionary Forces in France, cites a letter dated April 26. He writes of service, a pretty Alpine foothill scene, trout streams, deer and wild boar, and uncertain return dates.
Frank Roseman and his son John W. Roseman faced the Council of Defense in Fairbury last Thursday over allegations of obstructing the draft. John W. Roseman, recently discharged from Camp Funston for defective eyesight, was the subject of the dispute. Evidence was recorded and the council sent the case to the Attorney General amid a packed courthouse crowd from Diller and surrounding areas.
Jefferson county registrants totaling twenty five are considered with seventeen chosen to go to Camp Dodge Ila between the 25th and 30th of this month. Names include Jordan F. Lanmann George I. Huber George Cecil Holman Chas W. Renz Harvey Clay Reed John F. Weers and others such as Wayne H. Munn Harry C. Gregory William T. Bernhard Theodore R. Herman Steve Stapaulus Charles M. Kinzie Charles H. Steinmetz Marvin S. South Charles R. Webhili Frank F. Fox Emil H. Fishbeck David M. Doerksen Clarence R. Long and William J. Thomas.

The Diller churches plan a union memorial service in the Methodist church at 11 AM to honor soldiers who gave their lives in defense of their country. The Epworth League meets at 7 30 PM to study town wrongs to be righted followed by 8 30 PM preaching on Christian education.
A wartime letter describes 900 nurses awaiting overseas orders in New York after arriving from Fort Riley. Carrie recalls distributing pillows to very sick soldiers, thanks Ballard for her help, and notes plans to move on for overseas duty.
