A mixed crop of local items: births to Patton and Mudge families, building and land purchases, school closure, a trip by Diller High School juniors to Kilpatrick Ranch, a public reminder about Paints and pumps, and updates on residents including Mrs. Jas. Pickard visiting Beatrice, and Subscriptions and rains needed for crops.
Story notes a Plunk merchant recounting a four year old thumb injury treated with Bucklin’s Aruba Salve after a doctor suggested amputation. It also mentions a Nebraska farmer who killed two relatives after bringing home whisky for a hired man. Include additional items: crayon portraits and insurance sales by H McBride, agent for the AFL insurance company in Lincoln.
County officials announce no county conventions this year. A primary will be held on the first Tuesday in September with polls open noon to 9 pm. Most courthouse staff seek re-election except D. B. Griffith who is barred by law.
Memorial services will be held next Sunday at 11 oclock with G A R and W R C in charge and the pastor delivering the address. Epworth League marks its 18th anniversary with The Quest of the Highest program and a silver missionary collection.
Miss Smith of Omaha visits her cousin Mrs. 8 J Senior and other Diller relatives. Dr Claude Ellis will be away Monday Tuesday and Wednesday May 27 28 and 29 attending a dental convention at Topeka Kan. They should govern themselves accordingly. Pat Crowe tried again and acquitted of holding up street cars in Council Bluffs Iowa. This ends the last criminal charge linked to his notoriety as the supposed kidnapper of young Cudahy.
A new law requires every school district to set aside ten cents per pupil from the general fund for district library funds each year. The funds will be invested in books beyond the standard text books for the school library. The provision is to be administered by the local school board or trustees.
Col William Jennings Bryan presents an illustrated travel book recounting a yearlong journey around the world and through Europe. The volume includes 240 photographs showing towns, homes, and daily life, with Bryan’s text and drawings. Published by Thompson Publishing Company of St. Louis, Mo, sold through solicitors with agents advertised in this issue.
