For over forty years locals debate which town has the stronger baseball club. The upcoming game on Sunday May 20 between Odell and Diller promises to settle the question, with fans split on the outcome.
S F Clark transacted business at Fairbury yesterday. Miss Erma Sible of Odell visited Miss Pearl Caldwell for the weekend. Rex Green is painting and improving his newly acquired residence.
Wendell Fanders and Dean Barber traveled from Diller to Peru Nebraska and returned last Friday.
A neighborhood sale is planned for Saturday afternoon May 19 at Clark's Store near the Kensington of the Congregational church. Proceeds support church activities and community programs. Local residents and families are invited to browse and buy a variety of items.
Mr and Mrs J L Hughes from Denver Colorado arrived Friday for a short visit with his mother Mrs S M Hughes.
Twenty two normal trainers from Fairbury observed the teaching in districts 56 Thursday afternoon. Miss Logan was the teacher.
Miss Eyleen Green and Bonnie Green traveled from Peru Nebraska where they are students to spend Mothers Day with their family and native home.
Mr and Mrs C L Geer drove to Sabetha Kansas Saturday to visit their children Mr and Mrs Chester Weaver and returned home Sunday.

Mr and Mrs A A Weyer and daughters of Fairbury and Mr and Mrs L Caldwell visited Sunday afternoon at the home of Mr and Mrs Wm Freitgen in Harbine.
Duaine Buddy Clark ends his fourth term with perfect attendance, never absent or tardy, described as pretty good for a little fellow.
Attendance at the Fireman's dance Friday night drew more automobiles than usual, with reports of a real good time enjoyed by attendees.
Art Hamley returns to Steele City after treatment for lip cancer in Savannah Missouri. He says he feels pretty good despite weakness and is glad to be home.
Mr and Mrs Will Flash relatives of Mrs Saylor came Saturday and visited at the hospitable home of Mr and Mrs Saylor until Sunday evening when they returned to their home at Lincoln Nebraska.
Mrs. Nancy Robertson enjoyed a visit from her son in law and daughter Mr and Mrs E Habicht on Mother’s Day. The couple, from Worthington Minnesota, returned home Thursday after spending several days with relatives and friends.
Mrs Calkins of Blue Springs Nebraska visited ending Tuesday at the home of her son Lee Calkins and family, 14 miles south of town in Diller. She spent Mother's Day with another son A D Calkins in Loveland Colorado and has long kept a Mothers Day telephone tradition.
Ruth Stahl, a Diller High School senior, earned a University of Nebraska scholarship awarded to the top 250 scorers across subjects. She ranked in the upper 25 percent of winners. the scholarships are about $7000 annually in fees. Gerald Close won the award last year.
The Zion Lutheran church near Ellis hosts its annual picnic on Monday May 21 in George Sandman’s grove three miles north and four east of Harbine. Services at 10 30 AM will be in English by Rev Wildgrube. Afternoon features schoolchild program and a base ball game White City vs Highlanders. Music by the Diller band and a church youth program. Everyone invited.
Mr and Mrs C C Davis and two children of Villa Park Illinois were visiting friends in Diller yesterday. He returned to Filley Nebraska while Flora Waggoner remained for a commencement exercises meeting old classmates. They will visit Mrs Davis parents in Missouri before returning home. Mr Davis reports a death in the Chicago area.
Reverend S G Haughey who pastored the Seven Day Adventist congregation in Fairbury for two years has been transferred to Wilno Minnesota. Mrs Haughey and children Ruth and Paul left for the new home. Paul will attend Union College in Lincoln. No new pastor has been assigned yet. Haughey previously held meetings in Diller City Hall and is well known locally.
Francis Clark attended the Fairbury chautauqua at the Mary Etta hotel with afternoon and evening speeches. A 75 cent plate banquet capped the day, described as pleasant and profitable though not as well attended as hoped.
Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity hosted a Mothers Day banquet at the Chapter House in Lincoln Nebraska on Sunday May 13. Active and alumnus groups sponsored the event and offered each mother a vase and carnation as a favors. Mrs C H Cully attended.
Relatives of Mrs. Joe Cole visit her at Falls hospital in Beatrice where she is reported seriously ill with diabetes. Mr. and Mrs H. H. Green came last Friday and Mrs. Hattie Bell visited Tuesday this week.
Box Holle Clark's store Diller State Bank and the Bonham theatre unveil fresh advertisements. The copy emphasizes new goods services and events.
A three day training school for Jefferson county Farm Wheat Supervisors was held last week under W C Andreas and A C Schoenrock. Trainees include Wayne Bishop Howard Hardy Will Turner W B Knoble Clarence H Sixel Alfred Blobaum Roy Weichel R J Lesher and others. Active supervisors will be chosen from the list with start work planned for a few men at three to four weeks and about $3 per day plus mileage. Farmers with signed contracts urged to aid in proof of compliance checks.
On Friday night May 11, 1934 Juniors hosted Seniors and Faculty at the Methodist church basement with red and white decorations. Bernice Ferry and Faye Diller led the Grand March. Lucille Barnett played. Sophomore girls with the Women’s Club served. Performances included Velma Wehling acrobat, Lyle piano solo, Miss Hanson singing Laugh Clown Laugh, Gretchen Fanders reading, and toasts by Elmer Krebs with guests Wagoner Friday Wiemers Henrichs Schindler.
Burlington to display its crack train Zephyr on a Chicago westward cruise. It will be set out on a special siding at Lincoln on Tuesday May 22 for inspection and open to the public from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. After the trip the train returns to Chicago to be shown at the Century of Progress Exposition.
Albert Leaper arrived in town last Friday marking a first visit in several months. He had been in poor health through the recent winter and is noted as improving.
Eleanor M Filley daughter of Mr and Mrs W S Filley of Diller and Wells H Andrews of Steele City Nebraska were married at Hiawatha Kansas on June 14 193%. Eleanor taught in Diller and Alvo and is a Lincon University alumna. Wells son of Charles C Andrews of Steele City and brother of Rupert Andrews works with his father in livestock and plans to farm near Steele City. The Record extends best wishes for a long happy life together and hints at a future shower date.
The Womans Club held a May 23 1934 meeting at 8 PM with hostess Mrs Elizabeth Fouts and assistant hostess Mrs Ida Wood Leader Mrs John Carico led a roll call for musical numbers or readings. A business meeting followed. On June 9 the mother daughter tea at the Congregational church annex featured invited guests the Wymore Womanys Club. The program included a mothers reverie playlet and a lunch was served in the annex before departure. Reporter.

A county CWA road plan for a four mile stretch north of Diller to No 3 was disrupted by an unsolicited engineer delaying start and shifting focus to the Boulder dam project south of town. State Engineer Cochran denies promising a federal aid feeder, says funds must wait, while a state paving survey is being considered for Third Street near the viaduct.
W H Brokaw state wheat administrator says the United States has a 265 million bushel carryover to cover a potential short crop year. Even with reduced crops, carryover will supply the 600 million bushel annual demand. Spring wheat unknown. winter crop at 461 million versus 500 million normal.
Mr and Mrs Herbert Barber and daughter Garnet and Miss Pearl Sparks attended the Senior class play Hold Everything in Blue Springs Monday evening. Mrs Barber’s niece Esta Koch was one of the main characters.
