Diller Schools Delay End of Term and Commencement Plans

Diller Public Schools will close Saturday May 25 six days later than usual due to extra Christmas vacation days and the measles epidemic. The Junior-Senior banquet is tonight at the Congregational church annex. Commencement exercises are set for next Friday May 24 at 8 p.m. in the opera house, with Dean B. E. McProud of Wesleyan University delivering the address. The Baccalaureate will be Sunday evening at the Congregational church with Rev. L J Wolff of St Paul Lutheran delivering the sermon. The program includes Processional, songs by students, a concert by the Girls Glee Club, and addresses by Rev. L J Wolff and Miss Jean Smith among others.

Penny from 1850 found in door yard by Place family

Old Penny Perley Place showed a large 1850 Bank of Upper Canada penny found in their yard. Geo Place settled on a farm east of town in the 1880s and has lived there 49 years, never seeing the coin before.

Cortland Wins Gage County Music Contest at Odell

Cortland took first, Wymore second in the Gage County High School music contest at Odell last Saturday. Cortland earned four wins in six years with a 34 to 16 margin over Wymore, Clatonia, Virginia, and Odell among others. Clara Doughty won soprano solo, Arthur Cacek was second in clarinet, and the girls glee club took third.
