Free Movies Begin May in Diller Summer Series

The town of Diller plans 20 free movies this summer starting May 20. Films may be shown in the city park or the opera house if seating planks can be arranged. E H Jordening will skip Saturday night shows but will continue Sunday night screenings. Census work for Jefferson County is complete though official figures are pending. an unofficial count puts Diller’s population at about 309, a drop from a decade earlier. Heavy rainfall across Nebraska caused flooding and damage, with DeWitt hit hard and Beatrice reporting record river heights. three Beatrice residents died in a flood south of Crete. A newborn girl Chevyl Lane was welcomed in Steele City. Rita Mae Haupe and Robert A Green announce their engagement. wedding planned later this summer. Bible school opens May 22 at local churches with classes split between Congregational and Methodist locations. A three-car collision near Fairbury caused property damage but no injuries amid foggy conditions. Several locals traveled to Hastings for a visit with Darlene Novotny. Virgil Garton has mumps.

Regnier Henrichs wed in Fairbury ceremony

The May 3 wedding of Miss Cleo June Regnier of Diterard and Clarence Henrichs of Diller was held at the Grate Lutheran church in Fairbury. The event drew nearly 200 guests with lit candles, gladioli decor, and a reception in the church parlors. The couple will reside on a farm south of Diller.

Garden Club May Activities and Meeting at Library

Garden club calendar lists May 12 meeting at the library at 2 p.m. with election of officers. May 19 a mission study hosted by Mrs Frank Johnson. May 20 a food sale sponsored by the women of the Congregational church.

St Pauls Lutheran Diller Holds May Service

Sunday service at St Pauls Lutheran Church Diller featured a processional Land of Hope and Glory and a recessional from Land of Hopes and Glory. Rev Huenke conducted scripture readings prayer sermon and sermon pastor supply Leekine Lanham and organist Faye Novotny led choir girls and hymn selections from Hansel and Gretel music by Ewayer.
